Parashas Noach Page 15
These are the generations of Noach (6:9). It is seen that behold, there are two types of Tzaddikim that serve the Borei: The first Tzaddik serves the Borei Barchu, With great fervor, and they are for themselves, and are not bringing close the wicked ones to also be servants of the Borei, Barchu. 1
They are before themselves alone serving The Borei. And there is one Tzaddik, who serves the Borei and is returning The evil ones to also be servants of the Borei, like Avraham, our father, who was proselytizing the gentiles. And it is written
In the writings of the Arizal, that for this Noach was punished for he
was not admonishing the evil ones in his generation and needed to reincarnate 2
In Moshe, and Moshe was the rectification, for he was always admonishing all of Israel. And this is the explanation from the sayings of the sages (Kiddushin 40) Good for the heavens and good for the creation, for this Tzaddik Who serves Hashem and brings the wicked ones close, is also a servant of Hashem, called “Good for the Heavens” for he
3
is serving the Borei, Barchu. And good for the creation also For the sake he is bringing the creation to serve Hashem. Noach was not bringing the creation close to serve Hashem as explained above. And as it is known from what the sages of blessed memory said (Sanhedrin 99): All Who teach Torah to the son of their friend, it is as if they conceived him, as
4
it is written concerning Avraham our father (Beresheis 12:5) And with The souls which he made in Charan. Therefore, according to this, Avraham Our father was proselytizing many gentiles, and it was not said concerning Avraham “These are the generations” as it is said concerning Noach. For there were not generations for him, only what
5
the writings say (6:10): And Noach begot three sons, Shem, etc. – and no more, as explained above. And this is the explanation of the writing, “These are the generations of Noach, Noach was a perfect Tzaddik in his generation, etc. And Noach begot, etc. Only these are the generations of Noach. What is said in the writings above: And Noach begot three, etc. And the reason – “With Elohim 6
Noach walked (6:9). It means to say: Only with Elohim Was Noach walking. Noach alone was serving the Borei Barchu. But he was not walking with the creation to bring them close to be serving the Borei Barchu, therefore it is said following: And Noach begot only three sons: Shem, etc; And a further explanation: These are the generations of Noach. 7
And this is the explanation: And Noach found favor in the eyes of Hashem. And it was Said of him: And Noach, there was for him favor in the eyes of Hashem. And according to the above
I will explain. As it is known, the men of the generation of the flood were overflowing with evil designs, and Noach was a perfect Tzaddik, and was elevating himself to the favor from Holiness, for the generation of the flood
8
favor for them came from the Klipah, and Noach was not admonishing them. And this is the explanation: And Noach found favor in the eyes of Hashem. And Noach found favor – it means to say, See, that there can be found
favor in this world. And he found favor in the eyes of Hashem. It means to say; he was raised to Holiness, but
9
he was not elevated, except in the eyes of Hashem, but not in the eyes of the creation as explained above. However, as was examined in the explanation of Rashi of blessed memory, For Noach was small in faith. How would he be able to be this way? For the writing testifies of him: Noach was a perfect Tzaddik in his generation. And another question: Why wasn’t
10
Noach praying to annul the decree. We come to explain, for there are two types of Tzaddikim who serve the Borei: There is the Tzaddik that serves the Borei, and has no craving except to be
serving the Borei, and believes they do tnot have strength in the suprenal
to guide the worlds as they desire, as the sages of blessed memory said,
11
(Moed-Katan 16) A Tzaddik rules in fear of Elohim, 2 Samual 23:3) Who rules over Me? The Tzaddik. The Kodesh Barchu decrees, and a Tzaddik annuls the decree for goodness. And there is another Tzaddik, who serves the Borei Barchu, ’ and is very lowly in their own eyes. And they are thinking
12
in their heart: “Who am I to prey to nullify te decree. And therefore, I will not pray to nullify it. And this matter is explained in the Gemora, Sanhedrin 72b. Nebudchannezer desired to sing songs and praises. That would put to shame the songs and praises of David the King, peace be upon him. What is this word “Sheginah?”
13
And according to the above, I will explain, for Nebudchannezer was an evil person, and destroyed the Beit HaMikdash. And he was observing, that the Tzaddikim will be able to reverse the attribute of judgment to mercy. And he was afraid that there will be a Tzaddik, and they would pray to rebuild the Beit HaMikdash. Page 16
Therefore e said.”All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing, and e dies 14
according to their will. Daniel 4:32. It means to say, the worlds served according to his will (Nebudchannezer’s will) and no Tzaddikim will be able to nullify the decree. Thus were the thoughts of Nebudchannezer. And this is what the sages of blessed memory said: Nebudchannezer sought to sing songs and praises, that would put to shame the thoughts and praises of David. As it says:
15
Nebudchannezer desired to sing songs, that he would reverse the rule of David. So David said (Tehillum 145:19).
