Words and Speech in the Artist Book Maus Hábitos' Exhibition Room welcomes at the second fortnight of August an exhibition related to verbal language and expression and to word and speech in artists' book, organized by the collective Fim from Lisbon. This exhibition will display artworks by Catarina Domingues, Francisca Veiga, Sara Rocio, Téo Pitella, Tomé Duarte and Xavier Almeida.
No meu trabalho recente tenho desenvolvido uma aproximação e reflexão continuada em torno do elemento Peixe (Fish), explorando tanto visualmente como foneticamente as suas múltiplas formas e significâncias, em jogos irónicos de palavras. Sell Fish torna-se Selfish, ou Sell the fish, e serve de metáfora às modas sociais de auto-exposição e comunicação. Revela um novo quotidiano do ser humano, uma nova relação no contacto entre indivíduos, e da qual tento compreender a sua sensibilidade e a sua afinidade com o diálogo. Quais são as várias camadas da personalidade e como é que estas se desconstroem ao enfrentar determinadas situações. “Sell The Fish” é aqui mote para o trabalho, apontando este novo hábito de comercialização individualista da nossa personalidade, atributos e imagem. A reflexão da sociedade é feita através do desenho e do eufemismo presente neste, e o lado experimental, o estudo anatómico, a desconstrução do modelo, a necessidade de obter um conhecimento mais profundo sobre a forma, é aqui um paralelismo do que acontece com as relações humanas. As Essay Residencies são residências artísticas na área das artes visuais em relação com a performance, happening, música e dança, que têm lugar no Maus Hábitos. Partem da vontade da Saco Azul criar um intercâmbio com instituições de formação artística europeias através de ações de acolhimento curtas que terminam em apresentações ou open studios. Estas residências têm como objetivo aprofundar os possíveis caminhos e cruzamentos da artes plásticas com as artes performativas, e destinam-se a membros das instituições com as quais são realizadas. Esta é a 2ª residência dirigida a membros das Belas Artes do Porto, tendo a 1ª decorrido em Dezembro de 2015, para a qual foi selecionada uma proposta performativa de Giusepe Botelho e Tata Coutinho. A 2ª edição da residência Essay para membros da FBAUP decorre de 26 a 30.09 e termina com uma apresentação pública a 1.10. Essay Residencies are artistic residencies in the field of visual arts in relation to performance, happening, music and dance, that take place in Maus Hábitos. This residencies were design by Saco Azul with the intention of creating an exchange program with european art education institutions, through short residencies that finish with a public presentation or open studio. Essay’s residencies goal is to develop new relations between visual and performance arts and are aimed at students and teachers of the institutions for which they are held. This is the 2nd edition for members of the Fine Arts University in Porto. The 1st one took place in December 2015 for which the selected proposal was produced by Giusepe Botelho and Tata Coutinho. The 2nd edition of the Essay Residencies for FBAUP members will take place from 26 to 30.09 and and will finish with a public presentation in 01.10 2016.
“La Galerie du Temps” é uma exposição de imagem em movimento que explora a nossa relação com o tempo e a história e como a arte, o turismo e os media apropriam, representam e modelam essas dimensões para o observador, o espectador e o cidadão. As obras apresentadas aqui questionam a nossa relação física com a arte e os instrumentos que medeiam a nossa percepção e, através de uma perspectiva histórica, a relação da arte com o público e como atualmente o museu passa a ser o próprio objeto a ser exibido e o melhor de todos aqueles dentro dele: artistas, curadores e obras de arte. A narrativa de apresentação da arte e da história é assim condicionada pelo público do museu global (e não universal) bem como ligada a poderes económicos e políticos. Uma narrativa híbrida de diferentes fontes para uma História rizomática. Com obras de Ali Cherri, Louis Henderson, Gabrielle Le Bayon, Sasha Litvintseva, entre outros. Projeção de vídeos de Filipe Afonso e outros artistas convidados no dia 21 de Setembro. "La Galerie du Temps" is a motion picture exhibition that explores our relationship with time and history and also how art, tourism and media appropriate, represent and model these dimensions to the viewer, the spectator and the citizen. The works presented here question our physical relationship with art and instruments that mediate our perception and, through a historical perspective, the relation of art to the public and how currently the museum becomes the displayed object itself and the best of all those within it: artists, curators and art. The narrative of art presentation and history is thus conditioned by the public of the global museum (not universal) and linked to economic and political powers. A hybrid narrative from different sources for a rizomatic history. Works by Ali Cherri, Louis Henderson, Gabrielle Le Bayon, Sasha Litvintseva, among others. O projecto Apneia inicia a sua 4ª edição com participação de Dalila Gonçalves e Fabrizio Matos, no dia 16 de Setembro com a Exposição Sprint e uma conversa na Cooperativa Árvore, com o intuito de apresentar a dupla que irá desenvolver esta residência. Esta mesma inauguração, nomeada de Sprint é como que um primeiro momento em “esforço”, rápido e incisivo. É a entrada para um estágio que promete uma outra exposição, esta pós residência, que acontecerá no dia 8 de Outubro. Depois da Exposição Sprint têm início a residência na Árvore, na qual, ao longo de um mês, serão realizadas propostas expositivas dos dois artistas convidados. Dalila Gonçalves, tem um vasto percurso onde a abordagem plástica assenta em diferentes processos conceptuais e matéricos, e o seu processo de trabalho é um equilibrio entre a forma de fazer e de como o fazer, num jogo entre um real e uma possível reconstrução metafórica do quotidiano, que equivale ao seu processo de trabalho. Fabrizio Matos tem um trabalho que pode deambular entre diferentes construções narrativas, onde a pintura e a escultura assumem uma presença importante. Como o próprio refere, o seu trabalho passa pela evocação de um passado, de uma memória, algo que já aconteceu. Uma construção plástica em torno da ideia de “mistério”, algo “inexplicável”, construído através do seu processo como autor. Estes são alguns pontos descritivos do todo o que é a paleta mental e processual do que será apresentado neste 4º momento do projecto APNEIA.

Palavras e Discursos no Livro de Artista A sala de exposições do Maus Hábitos recebe até dia 18.09 uma exposição de obras relacionadas à expressão verbal e à palavra nos livros de artista, organizada pelo coletivo lisboeta FIM, de Téo Pitella e Francisca Veiga “+ outros”. A exposição conta com obras de Catarina Domingues, Sara Rocio, Tomé Duarte e Xavier Almeida, bem como dos próprios Téo Pitella e Francisca Veiga.
In my recent work I’ve been developing an approach and reflection about the element Fish, exploiting visually and phonetically its multiple forms and meanings, in ironical word games. Sell Fish turns into Selfish, or into Sell The Fish, and serves as a metaphor for the social trends of self exposure and communication. It reveals a new common everyday life, as new relations arise between individuals, and I try to understand this new sensibility and its affinity with dialogue. What are the various layers of personality and how do they deconstruct themselves while facing certain situations? “Sell the Fish” is the work's motto, highlighting the new practice of individualistic marketing of our personality, skills and image. Drawing and euphemism are used as tools to reflect upon society, and the experimental approach, the anatomic study, the deconstruction of the model and the necessity to obtain a deeper knowledge about form compose a parallelism with human relations. The Apneia project begins its 4th edition featuring Dalila Gonçalves and Fabrizio Matos, on 16 September with the Sprint Exhibition and a talk in the Coop. Árvore, in order to present the duo who will develop this residence. This very opening, named Sprint is like a first moment of "effort", fast and incisive. It is the entrance to a stage that promises another exhibition, this one post residence, which will take place on 8 October. After the Sprint Exhibition the residence in Árvore begins, in which, over a month artistic proposals of the guest artists will be explored. Dalila Gonçalves has a long practice where the plastic approach is based on different conceptual and materic processes. Her work process is a balance between the form of doing and the how to do it, in a game between a real and a possible metaphoric reconstruction of daily life which is equivalent to her working process. Fabrizio Matos has a work that can roam between different narrative constructions, where painting and sculpture assume an important presence. As he refers, his work involves the evocation of a past, a memory, something that has already happened. A plastic construction around the idea of "mystery," something "inexplicable", built through its process as an author. These are some descriptive points of all that is the mental and processual palette of what will be presented in this 4th edition of the project APNEIA.
Este trabalho é sobre o João. É sobre o autismo. O autismo é uma forma muito particular de estar no mundo e de construir uma realidade para si mesmo, que representa quase sempre dificuldades na comunicação e interacção social e padrões de comportamento repetitivos. O João tem 20 anos e foi diagnosticado aos 3. Não anda na escola, não pega num livro para ler, não vê televisão e nunca usou um computador ou telefone. Não fala, mas desde pequeno que escreve. Escreve sobre a atualidade, sobre o futuro, abordando vários temas com uma rapidez e lucidez estonteantes, como se tivesse acesso à informação de uma forma que desconhecemos (em 2014 o seu livro “O menino de Deus” lançado pela Porto Editora foi bestseller). A Sara acompanhou o João durante quase 1 ano, e foi testemunha da sua escrita, dos seus pensamentos e vontades. Aceitou fazer este trabalho para dar mais voz à sua causa e à temática do autismo. E a viagem foi de um enorme crescimento pessoal para ela, como ser humano, como mãe e como fotógrafa.
This project is about João. About autism. Autism is a very particular way of being in the world and building a reality for yourself, often meaning restraints in communication and social interaction, as well as patterns of repetitive behaviours. João is 20 years old and was diagnosed at 3. He doesn’t go to school, doesn’t grab a book to read, doesn’t watch TV and has never used a computer or phone. He does not speak, but from an early age he started to write. He writes about the present, about the future, addressing various issues with such quick and stunning clarity, as if he has access to information in a way unknown to us (in 2014 his book "The child of God" released by Porto Editora was a bestseller). Sara got along with João for almost one year, and witnessed his writing, his thoughts and desires. She agreed to go through with the project, to raise awareness to his cause and to autism. And the trip gifted her with a huge personal growth as a human being, as a mother and as a photographer.
O QUEER PORTO apresenta como programação paralela nesta sua segunda edição nortenha uma série de performances, concertos e sessões especiais que abordam a temática Queer nos dias 5, 6, 7 e 8 de Outubro no Maus Hábitos. Como ponto alto desta programação destacam-se a noite de abertura e a noite de encerramento, ambas marcadas por DJsets e várias acções artísticas com participação de artistas nacionais e internacionais. QUEER PORTO features as a parallel program in its second northern edition a series of performances, concerts and special sessions that address the Queer theme on the 5, 6, 7 and 8 of October in Maus Hábitos. As highlights of this program the opening and closing night stand out, both marked by DJsets and multiple artistic actions with participation of national and international artists.
