“Augustana University’s student body and staff are made up of intelligent and hardworking individuals. The small classes make it easy to connect with professors and participate. The campus also offers many student organizations, where students can join and meet people. I am glad I chose to come here because it makes me grow and learn academically and socially.”

Seventy-three days to make a difference Imagine reading your favorite book. High school is a lot like a good book. When you first start, it takes a while to get into it. You need time get to know the characters and then you start really enjoying it and you can’t wait to see how it ends. But at the same time, you don’t want to end it. There are only 73 pages (that’s days) left in my book of high school. During my senior year, which has been one of the best chapters of all, I have been in classes that have challenged me, classes like AP Spanish and AP Stats, and classes that have interested me, like Wood Hear me. . . Tech 1 and newspaper. Also, this year I have tried new things that I realRachel Boer ly wish I would have done earlier. For example, Monday night I attended the Concert Choir Variety Show. Let me tell you guys, there are so many incredibly gifted singers at WHS, and if you ever get the chance to hear them sing, you won’t regret it. New classes also bring new characters. Those new characters have been a big part of this chapter as well. Even though I am a senior, I have met people I didn’t even knew went to WHS until this year. So go to coffee with that girl in your math class. I doubt you will regret it, I know I haven’t. So my advice to you all is, whether it is just on to your next chapter of the book or the end of your “High School” book, make it full of new adventures, new characters, and a happy ending during these last 73 days of school. Senior Rachel Boer hopes to come out of wood tech with 10 fingers!

Tesla car on a path that goes beyond Mars By Samantha Masunaga Los Angeles Times (TNS) The Tesla Roadster that launched Tuesday on the first test flight of SpaceX’s powerful Falcon Heavy rocket is heading farther into space than expected. The red car — along with a dummy in the driver’s seat named “Starman” — were targeting an elliptical orbit around the sun that would, at times, get close to Mars. On Tuesday night, SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk tweeted that the vehicle’s trajectory had “exceeded Mars orbit and kept going to the Asteroid Belt.”

Technology Watch Starman and the Roadster are now flying in a long, elliptical orbit around the sun. At its farthest point, that orbit extends nearly 243 million miles. That’s 2.61 times the average distance between Earth and the sun, which is, on average, about 93 million miles. Musk said the Roadster will orbit the sun for millions, perhaps even billions, of years. He wondered what aliens might think if they ever came across the Roadster drifting through space. After all, SpaceX packed other weird items in the car, among them a small toy Hot Wheels Roadster (complete with a miniature Starman) on the dashboard. “Maybe [it will be] discovered by an alien race, thinking, ‘What were these guys doing? Did they worship this car? Why do they have a little car in the car?’” Musk said. “That will really confuse them.”
