PARISH MISSION STATEMENT “The Community of St. Monica Catholic Church is a Multi-Cultural Parish who faithfully worships God and proclaims the Gospel.”

Sunday March 16, 2014 The Second Sunday of Lent Cycle A

Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk...to a land that I will show you. Genesis 12:1

SUNDAY, MARCH 16 Second Sunday of Lent Calling Us to New Lands Genesis 12:1-4 ● Psalm 33:4-5, 18-20, 22 ● 2 I pause for a moment to “become Abraham.” I, too, Timothy 1:8-10 ● Matthew 17:1-9

have gone forth from the lands I once knew and loved intimately. I have walked new pathways, embraced new ways of living. I have moved away from places I once called home. Yet in all my leavings, the most in-depth transformations have not come from the physical landscapes I have left. There are lands even more difficult to walk away from. Although it is true that I have left the land of the easy answers and walked into the land of eternal questions, more challenges await me. I yearn to leave the land of self-will and embrace the land of surrender. I would like to leave the land of hoarding and embrace the land of simplicity. Perhaps someday I will leave the land of fear and walk into the land of trust. O God, help me believe, as Abraham did, that it is you calling me into these new lands.

MONDAY, MARCH 17 St. Patrick Daniel 9:4-10 ● Psalm 79:8-9, 11, 13 ● Luke 6:36-38 TUESDAY, MARCH 18 St. Cyril of Jerusalem Isaiah 1:10, 16-20 ● Psalm 50:8-9, 16-17, 21, 23 ● Matthew 23:1-12 WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19 St. Joseph 2 Samuel 7:4-5, 12-14, 16 ● Psalm 89:2-5, 27, 29 ● Romans 4:13, 16-18, 22 ● Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24 THURSDAY, MARCH 20 Lenten Weekday Jeremiah 17:5-10 ● Psalm 1:1-4, 6 ● Luke 16:19-31 FRIDAY, MARCH 21 Lenten Weekday Genesis 37:3-4, 12-13, 17-28 ● Psalm 105:16-21 ● Matthew 21:33-43, 45-46

Sr. Macrina Weiderkehr, O.S.B. SATURDAY, MARCH 22 Lenten Weekday Living Faith Micah 7:14-15, 18-20 ● Psalm 103:1-4, 9-12 ● Luke 15:1-3, Mark Neilsen 11-32

Editor SUNDAY, MARCH 23

Third Sunday of Lent Exodus 17:3-7 ● Psalm 95:1-2, 6-9 ● Romans 5:1-2, 5-8 ● John 4:5-42

MARRIAGE MOMENTS: Just as Jesus was transfigured and appeared gloriously to Peter, James, and John (Mt 17: 19) so too love for your spouse can bring out the best in the other. Recall for a moment your wedding day and the wonder of seeing each other clothed in splendor. PARENTING POINTERS: March 21 is Single Parent Day. If you are a single parent we honor you for the effort you make to provide continuous care for your child, often without the help of a ready partner. If you are blessed to have a helpmate, reach out to a parent who needs a helping hand this weekend.
