Discussion Items 1. •

General Considerations: CYP wants to continue to provide community space

3-4 story construction would be desirable for efficiency, but MP team should take neighborhood compatibility into consideration.

Placing new buildings toward Cypress Creek Blvd. will help create a presence along the street and signify entry. Not clear currently where the front door is There may be a different perception from a vehicular vs. a pedestrian perspective (a physical vs. a symbolic front door).

It is desirable to keep a buffer to the residential neighborhood (surface parking?)

Building partially underground is more expensive and may eliminate natural light opportunities.

It was noted that the new Round Rock Campus (RRC) may take some pressure off Cypress Creek. -

We need to continue work on the demographic data to determine the extent, if any, of the relief.

-

It is currently projected that RRC will open at 75% full.

-

This region is continuing to grow. Leander ISD has projected 56% growth over the next 5 years.

Recreational facilities (gym and intramural fields) would be desirable.

Performing arts space (for 500+) would be desirable. The largest space currently on campus can only house 120+/-.

New buildings at CYP should be aesthetically attractive – collegiate. -

Interested in the quality of the buildings and the quality of the open space.

Cypress Creek CAC Meeting March 23, 2010

The consistency of the ACC campuses was discussed: -

It was noted that the vastly different areas in which the campuses are located may not be conducive to a common architecture, however other things can be used to unify the campuses (signage, landscaping, etc)

-

Programmatically the MP is a tool to strive for parity across the district.

People like the CYP campus now – get good feedback

Building 1000 was discussed -- The 1-story building could be kept and developed as a ‘town center’ or that function could be provided in a new multistory building.

It is desirable to co-locate like-disciplines in clusters

Not really any available adjacent land (for acquisition).

We may get some ‘pushback’ on structured parking from the neighborhood. Would we be required to widen Lake Line Blvd. in order to construct a garage?

MP team to study setback requirements.

The current amphitheater is located directly between the two testing centers (which is a noise problem). It is used for community events and speakers.

The #1 challenge at CYP was discussed and included a lack of: administrative space, learning labs, meeting spaces, library space, instructional space and admissions line space (places to wait during registration).

The testing center is not yet overcrowded (there are two centers). It works for this number of students and can be used to ‘right-size’ other facilities. It was noted the weekend hours cut down on peak use.

The space between the two existing buildings was discussed. MP team suggested it could be enhanced by additional trees, landscaping and site amenities (seat walls, lighting, etc).

The covered connections between buildings are desirable – they provide shelter as well as help define a sense of place.

Classroom design should take into account natural light, flexibility and security.

Only one ITV class is currently held in ITV classroom, however the room is popular with regular classes.

Unless written notice is received within seven calendar days, these minutes will be construed as an accurate record of the meeting. Please contact Lauren Goldberg at [email protected] or (512) 476-7133 with any corrections.
