Discussion Items 1. •
3/30/2010
General Considerations: MP team should consider a balance between distance learning and new buildings (but still anticipate a ‘brick and mortar’ need. Alternatives to traditional classes include: -
Web-based classes
-
Video conference classes
-
Hybrid classes
•
Need more core classes at EVC.
•
A larger campus works better for having all core classes and providing a sense of place. 10-12,000 seems like a reasonable size.
•
As the College geographically spreads further – there may be more duplication of workforce programs. Currently, very little duplication (of specialty/workforce programs) exists.
•
Developmental education is offered at EVC (it is offered at all ACC campuses)
•
EVC could use a business incubation/small business development program.
•
Other non-academic training programs offered at EVC should relate to the existing programs (allied fields).
•
It was noted that ACC offers other programs including: General Education Development (GED), Adult Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Civics, and Continuing Education. These programs would be beneficial at each campus.
•
There is currently a workforce lease (taking up approximately 20,000 s.f.) which will be up in 2019.
•
Dental clinic and the café both require public access (and parking).
•
The culinary program wants to grow program/facilities: a pastry arts lab, a café expansion, outdoor garden space, and a bigger kitchen

Eastview CAC Meeting March 23, 2010
•
The CAC requested a summary of programs currently offered at EVC.
•
The ‘front door’ of the campus was discussed. It is not currently clear. Workforce and administration are located off the entrance on Webberville however, Govalle appears to be more of a main entrance. Should be able to clarify and strengthen the main entry.
•
Can Govalle be paved differently to provide a more pedestrian friendly crossing?
•
Security issues were discussed: -
There is currently a problem with theft in building 9000 – possibly due to entrances being somewhat hidden. EMS is often hit.
-
Site lighting is reasonable/adequate currently.
-
The remote parking is less popular. Making loop circulation (so it is no longer a dead end) could help.
-
Garages are not inherently a security problem.
•
Event parking is only problematic if the event is held during classes. Events on Fri/Sat/Sun do not have parking problem.
•
A parking garage should have incentives to promote use. Parking on the street is a current problem.
•
The testing center, the learning labs, support spaces and some classrooms are currently undersized and need to grow.
