CITY OF DRIGGS, CITY OF VICTOR, CITY OF TETONIA AND TETON COUNTY, IDAHO JOINT PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 19, 2017 Re: Total Solar Eclipse Teton County, ID- The Incident Management Team (IMT) met again this morning at 8:00 am to assess local eclipse conditions. As the eclipse quickly approaches, the IMT reminds residents and visitors of the following: CONSIDER PETS & LEAVE THEM HOME IF POSSIBLE – Domestic animals get spooked by eclipses even more than wild animals. Horses will need to be in barns, dogs will need to be in kennels. Don't bring animals with you unless you've made prior arrangements for their wellbeing for the whole time of the eclipse. WEAR ECLIPSE GLASSES - Wear eclipse glasses to avoid damage to your eyes. Even a quick glance at the sun without proper eye protection can cause irreversible eye damage and even blindness. Sunglasses will not protect your eyes. CALL AHEAD FOR CAMPING OPTIONS – There are still camping options available between Victor and Tetonia. Please call ahead to make reservations so you will have a destination before arriving. An interactive map with campground details can be found at www.tetoncountyidaho.gov. Be sure to click on the campground icons for details or call the Eclipse Information Line at 208-354-8791 for assistance. TRAFFIC: Local traffic continues to increase. Teton County Sheriff’s office reminds drivers to not park on any highways and to use designated parking lots and city streets only. Expect traffic delays throughout the weekend. Please be patient and give yourself plenty of time to reach your eclipse destination. Unnecessary travel is not recommended. Traffic throughout the state is moving at normal speeds with no significant delays. DRONE FLIGHTS: FAA regulations require that anyone that flies a drone must register with the City of Driggs to fly within five miles of the airport. This is for the safety of pilots and residents in the area. This includes the entire city of Driggs and Teton County north of Driggs. LOCAL AIRPORT: Driggs - Reed Memorial Airport reports all aircraft parking spaces are full. Aircraft may land to refuel only unless they have a previous reservation. RV DUMPING: Dumping may not occur outside of permitted RV dump sites. Visitors should expect limited or no access to dump sites.
