Welcome to St Laurence, whether you regularly worship here or are here for the first time. If you have children, they are welcome to use the area at the back of the church under Parental supervision

Sidesmen are: Verity Buckle and Gwen Brown INTROIT HYMN: (CH 608)

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise him, for he is your health and salvation. All you who hear, now to his altar draw near, join in profound adoration. Praise to the Lord, let us offer our gifts at his altar; let not our sins and transgressions now cause us to falter. Christ, the High Priest, bids us all join in his feast, gathered with him at the altar. Praise to the Lord, who will prosper and work and defend us, surely his goodness and mercy here daily attend us; ponder anew all the Almighty can do, he who with love will befriend us. Praise to the Lord, oh, let all that is in us adore him! All that has life and breath, come now in praises before him. Let the Amen sound from his people again, now as we worship before him. WE GATHER

Alleluia, Christ is risen He is risen indeed, Alleluia The Priest welcomes the congregation and introduces the theme of the Service. (Silence is kept)

PRAYER OF PREPARATION

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. PRAYER OF PENITENCE

The Priest introduces the Prayer of Penitence

My brothers and sisters, as we prepare to celebrate the presence of Christ in word and sacrament, let us call to mind and confess our sins. (Silence is kept)

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and against our neighbour in thought and word and deed, through negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past and grant that we may serve you in newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen. We sing:

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. We sing:

Acts 1:15-17, 21-26 read by Rachel Elliott

In those days Peter stood up among the believers (together the crowd numbered about one hundred twenty persons) and said, “Friends, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit through David foretold concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus—for he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry.” So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these must become a witness with us to his resurrection.” So they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias. Then they prayed and said, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles. This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God. GRADUAL HYMN: (CH 19)

All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ name! let angels prostrate fall; bring forth the royal diadem To crown him crown him, crown him, crown him Lord of all. Ye prophets who our freedom won, ye searchers, great and small, by whom the work of truth is done, Now crown him …… Bless him, each poor oppressèd race that Christ did upward call; his hand in each achievement trace, And crown him ….. 4

Let every tribe and every tongue to him their hearts enthral, lift high the universal song, And crown him ….. THE GOSPEL READING

John 17:6-19 We sing: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia Speak Lord, for your servant is listening. You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia The Lord be with you And also with you. Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John Glory to you, O Lord. “I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything you have given me is from you; for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours. All mine are yours, and yours are mine; and I have been glorified in them. And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them your name that you have given me. I guarded them, and not one of them was lost except the one destined to be lost, so that the scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy made complete in themselves. I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one. They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your 5

word is truth. As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth. This is the Gospel of the Lord, Praise to you, O Christ. SERMON WE AFFIRM OUR FAITH

We stand to say

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION.

Prayers led by Vince Gould (Please sit/kneel)

Prayer Responses:

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens Let your glory be over all the earth. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. We stand and the Priest introduces the peace:

The peace of the Lord be always with you And also with you. Let us offer one another a sign of peace. WE PRESENT OUR GIFTS

The presentation of the Gifts on behalf of the people by Jacky Collins and Jenny Humphreys OFFERTORY HYMN (CH 37)

Alleluya, sing to Jesus, his the sceptre, his the throne, alleluia, his the triumph, his the victory alone: hark! the songs of peaceful Sion thunder like a mighty flood; Jesus, out of every nation, hath redeemed us by his Blood. Alleluya, not as orphans are we left in sorrow now; alleluia, he is near us faith believes, nor questions how; though the cloud from sight received him when the forty days were o’er, shall our hearts forget his promise, “I am with you evermore”? 7

Alleluia, Bread of Angels, thou on earth our food, our stay; alleluia, here the sinful flee to thee from day to day; intercessor, friend of sinners, earth’s Redeemer, plead for me, where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea. Alleluia, King eternal, thee the lord of lords we own; alleluia, born of Mary, earth thy footstool, heaven thy throne: thou within the veil hast entered, robed in flesh, our great high priest; thou on earth both priest and victim in the Eucharistic Feast. The bread and wine are placed on the altar.

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread to offer which earth has given and human hands have made. It will become for us the bread of life. Blessed be God for ever. Blessed are you Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this wine to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink. Blessed be God for ever. Pray, my brothers and sisters, that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good of all his Church. THE EUCHARIST PRAYER

The Lord be with you And also with you.

8

Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise. The Priest continues with the Eucharistic Prayer Preface and then all sing:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest. (Sit/kneel) The Priest continues, recalling and remembering with us the Last Supper…… then we sing:

Great is the mystery of faith: Christ has died: Christ is risen: Christ will come again. At the End of the next Prayer we respond Amen. (Silence is kept) THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. WE BREAK BREAD

9

The Priest breaks the consecrated bread, saying:

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. We sing:

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us peace. WE SHARE IN HOLY COMMUNION

Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Blessed are those who are called to his supper. Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word, and I shall be healed. If you are a communicant member of another church you are welcome to share with us in the Blessed Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, (please indicate if you require a gluten free wafer.) The Priest delivers the consecrated bread and wine saying: The Body and Blood of Christ. The communicant may reply Amen and then receive. We reply as an act of faith. For a Personal Blessing and/or a Special Prayer only, please also go to the High Altar Rail. The Chalice Bearers are: Peter Hodges and Mike Appelbe

10

HYMN DURING COMMUNION: CH 696)

(Please remain seated)

The head that once was crowned with thorns is crowned with glory now: a royal diadem adorns the mighty victor’s brow. The highest place that heaven affords is his, is his by right. The King of kings and Lord of lords, and heaven’s eternal light; The joy of all who dwell above, the joy of all below, to whom he manifests his love, and grants his name to know. The cross he bore is life and health, though shame and death to him: his people’s hope, his people’s wealth, their everlasting theme. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen. WE GO IN CHRIST’S PEACE

The Lord be with you And also with you. The Priest pronounces a Blessing. We respond Amen

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Alleluia, Alleluia. In the name of Christ. Alleluia, Alleluia. 11

Please sit for the Notices and reading of Banns RECESSIONAL HYMN: (CH 379)

Lord, enthroned in heavenly splendour, first begotten from the dead, thou alone, our strong defender, liftest up thy people’s head. Alleluia, alleluia, Jesus, true and living bread! Prince of life, for us thou livest, by thy body souls are healed; Prince of peace, thy peace thou givest, by thy blood is pardon sealed; alleluia, alleluia, Word of God, in flesh revealed. Paschal Lamb! thine offering, finished once for all when thou wast slain, in its fullness undiminished shall for evermore remain, alleluia, alleluia, cleansing souls from every stain. Life-imparting heavenly manna, stricken rock, with streaming side, heaven and earth with loud hosanna worship thee, the Lamb who died; alleluia, alleluia, risen, ascended, glorified! The Lord be with you, And also with you. Let us bless the Lord, Thanks be to God May the divine assistance remain with us always. And with all our brothers and sisters in Christ. May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Alleluia, Alleluia. And rise in glory. Alleluia, Alleluia 12
