fully the students can bring some energy.” Coach Kelly Schroeder said the Warriors learned from the loss. “We need to make a couple changes in practice to prepare for tomorrow’s game,” Schroeder said. “We must go into the game with the mindset that we have nothing to lose, and to make sure fear doesn’t dictate how we play and feel on the court.” The JV lost in three Tuesday, 17-25, 25-10, 17-25. The sophomores lost in two 16-25, 11-25. The Freshman A lost 21-25, 13-25 and the Freshman B lost 17-25, 13-25. happy with the outcome of the meet, overall. “I think we did really well at doing the little things we had to do to bring our scores down,” he said. “We really put things together towards the end of the meet and we were within 11 strokes of O’Gorman. Make the most of Orange Letter Days This week is the 95th annual OLD Homecoming at WHS. It’s a busy and exciting week with tons of activities to participate in. The kickoff of the week began on Sunday with the ice cream social. Monday night Hear me. . . coronation took place and our royalty candidates were crowned— Katelyn Smith Brady Grapevine and Jena Mitchell. Last night, the Warrior soccer and volleyball teams played. You still have the opportunity to attend the volleyball or soccer games this Thursday, and there are still two dress up days left, as well. On Thursday, throw on either your best denim or biker attire. Then on Friday, dress head to toe in

black and orange to rep the Warriors. Friday is always the highlight of homecoming week—Big Orange Letter Day! Friday’s activities include the pizza feed along with outdoor activities, the variety show encore and the pep rally during the day, then the football game against Rapid City Stevens, and of course my personal favorite, the homecoming dance, to finish the day. As a freshman and sophomore I thought I was “too cool” to attend the dance, but now I know how much fun I missed out on. The homecoming dance is the best way to wrap-up an awesome week of celebrating Warrior pride. This dance is casual, so there is no need to dress up. Just grab some friends and head to the dance after the football game. I expect to see ALL of my fellow Warriors in the stands cheering loud and proud at the game, especially you freshmen! Make the most of the rest of this week! Senior Katelyn Smith says “Go Warriors!”

Maria rips through Caribbean By Molly Hennessy-Fiske Los Angeles Times (TNS) SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands were bracing for possible catastrophe as they remained locked in the cross hairs of Hurricane Maria, a Category 5 storm that has already devastated the Caribbean island of Dominica and on Tuesday was continuing to gain strength.

Your green world

“Now is not the time to wait,” San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz said in a televised plea for people in high-risk areas or rickety homes to evacuate to shelters. “Now is the time to accept the reality of what’s going to happen.” Speaking from the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, where more than 500 evacuees were hunkering down, she warned that the storm would probably shut down communications and could leave the city of about 400,000 without power for months. “We will keep in contact with the outside world as long as we can,” the mayor told reporters. The hurricane briefly weakened to Category 4 on Tuesday but soon returned to a maximum Category 5 and was upping its wind speeds into the evening. Forecasters said the storm surge could raise water levels by as high as 11 feet. When Maria made landfall in Dominica on Monday, it carved a path of devastation. “The winds are merciless! We shall survive by the grace of God,” Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit wrote in one of several Facebook posts chronicling the storm from his official residence. He said he could hear the sound of the storm stripping away steel roofs, including his own.
