Netflix can distract you from pressures of school Imagine this—you just got home from school, and you have tons of super-important homework to do, so you grab a quick snack and flip on the TV and binge watch Netflix for seven hours, completely neglecting any responsibilities you might have. Netflix is the Hear me. . . dominant movie streaming service in the world right now, and with 9,109 titles Kane Miedema to select from (at my last count) you’re bound to find something you’ll like. I hear a lot of people talking around school about their favorite shows, and the one I have found is the most popular is “Grey’s Anatomy.” It’s an American medical drama show where lots of people die, and hooking up in

equipment closets is normal. Another seemingly popular show that I have not seen is “American Horror Story.” I just watched the trailer for “American Horror Story: Hotel,” and all I can say is “Gosh darn, that show is mighty strange!” Apparently popular Netflix series and reality have little to do with each other. Personally, my favorite show on Netflix ever is “Mad Men.” It’s a show that takes place in the cutthroat advertising business during the 1960’s. All the aspects of the 1960’s are there, like JFK vs. Nixon, and the Cold War. The main character is Don Draper (but not really). Don really enjoys dabbling in the art of women and drinks. That’s all I can really say without spoiling anything, so you’ll have to check it out for yourself. So grab some of your favorite food and your significant other and forget about the pressures of school for a few hours and just Netflix n’ chill. Senior Kane Miedema is an advertising genius.

JV football team remains perfect after win over East WHS now 6-0 after win in Sioux City

By IvaJane O’Brien JV football team members traveled to Sioux City, Iowa, Thursday and brought home a 42-13 win over Sioux City East. Junior Thuro Reisdorfer scored on a 45-yard touchdown reception from freshman quarterback Jayden Johannsen. Sophomore Wyatt Schmidt’s fumble recovery in the end zone scored the second touchdown for the Warriors. Next came sophomore Ben Schelhaas’ seven-yard touchdown and sophomore Jakob Devries’ 20-yard interception scores.

Coach Eric Struck said the Warriors played well. “Defensively for the Warriors, Wyatt Schmidt had a fumble recovery for a touchdown and Jakob Devries had a 20 yard interception return for a touchdown to help lead the Warriors,” Struck said. Up next for the undefeated and 6-0 JV Warriors is a home game vs. cross-town rival Roosevelt on Monday at WHS. The varsity will next play tonight as they travel to Watertown, and the freshmen next host Roosevelt Tuesday.

Study links fracking to premature births By Sean Cockerham McClatchy Washington Bureau (TNS) WASHINGTON — New research from Johns Hopkins University suggests pregnant women living near oil fracking wells in Pennsylvania are more likely to give birth prematurely or have highrisk pregnancies. “Now that we know this is happening we’d like to figure out why,” said Brian Schwartz, lead researcher and a professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. “Is it air quality? Is it the stress? They’re the two leading candidates in our minds at this point.”

Science Friday Schwartz and his colleagues studied the records of more than 9,000 mothers who gave birth in north and central Pennsylvania between 2009 and 2013. They compared the data with information about natural gas fracking wells in the region. The researchers found that living among the most active quartile of fracking activity was associated with a 40 percent increase in premature birth and a 30 percent increase in reported high-risk pregnancies, which can mean factors like high blood pressure or excessive weight gain. Johns Hopkins said the research, published in the journal Epidemiology, was peer reviewed and funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Huge amounts of high-pressure water and chemicals are pumped underground in the fracking process to break shale rock and release oil and natural gas inside. Fracking has created an energy boom in the U.S, although it’s beginning to falter with the crash in oil and gas prices.
