Policy 104 Dassel-Cokato Public Schools ISD #466 Adopted: 8/26/99 Revised: _8/24/2006, 9/25/2008__ 104 SCHOOL DISTRICT MISSION AND VISION STATEMENT I. PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to establish a clear statement of the purpose for which the school district exists. II. GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY The school board believes that a mission and vision statement should be adopted. The mission and vision statement should be based on the beliefs and values of the community, should direct any change effort and should be the basis on which decisions are made. The school board, on behalf of and with extensive participation by the community, should develop a consensus among its members regarding the nature of the enterprise the school board governs, the purposes it serves, the constituencies it should consider, including student representation, and the results it intends to produce. III. MISSION STATEMENT In partnership with our communities, Dassel-Cokato Public Schools will provide all learners opportunities designed to maximize their potential and promote lifelong learning. IV. VISION STATEMENT The Dassel-Cokato Public Schools will serve the communities in our district as a premier provider of educational services, meeting the needs of the whole student by helping each acquire necessary skills for life. By working in collaboration with our community partners – including families, churches, local government agencies, and businesses – and taking advantage of emerging information technologies, we will deliver comprehensive, progressive programs that help students: Acquire the fundamental skills needed to achieve success in the world of work, Develop the social awareness and interpersonal skills that enable them to contribute effectively as individuals and team members in their work, family, and community life, and

Build character, developing the secure foundation of beliefs and values, respect for and trust in others, and commitment to family life needed to preserve the integrity of our communities. Guided by these goals, teacher and other staff members will constantly innovate, applying current techniques, new technologies, and community resources to create a variety of high-quality learning opportunities. The skills for life will enable students to communicate effectively, understand new technologies and ways to access information, make sound decisions, work cooperatively with others, pursue life-long learning, and serve the needs of family and community. V. REVIEW The school board will review the school district's mission every two years, especially when members of the board change. The school board will conduct a comprehensive review of the mission, including the beliefs and values of the community, every five to seven years.
