Ten Warriors inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame On Oct. 21, I had the opportunity to attend the 2016 WHS Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony held at the Washington Pavilion. Since 1995, WHS has put on an annual ceremony that pays tribute to former athletes, coaches, administrators and contributors who have made a significant difference at WHS during their time at the school. On that night, a former administrator, contributor, coach, and seven former athletes were inducted into the Hear me. . . Hall of Fame. Since the school was founded in 1908, Carson Herbert there have been Warriors from many different generations that have been inducted. Keep in mind that until 1992, WHS was located downtown at what is now the Washington Pavilion before moving to Sixth and Sycamore. Not only was the night an excellent history lesson about WHS athletics, but it was also fascinating to talk to and hear from WHS alumni in attendance. Their stories about their high school experiences and the advice they gave me was something that I will never forget. As I drove home that evening after the ceremony, I reminded myself of the tremendous tradition and pride WHS has to offer. Every time I walk past the trophy cases in the gym foyer and look at the banners on display in the gym, I will be reminded of those personal stories I heard and all the excellence that has and continues to walk through the two buildings. Check out the 2016 inductees, on display under the flag in the commons now. Senior Carson Herbert can’t wait to see some recent and current Warriors get inducted.

Web sites look to video future By Paresh Dave Los Angeles Times (TNS) LOS ANGELES — Facebook and Snapchat have overtaken the home pages of Yahoo and Google as the front door to the Internet for hundreds of millions of people. Now, the two rivals are pursuing a much bigger challenge: surpassing television to become the dominant gateway to video.

Technology Watch Tech firms see video as the next frontier of their business. U.S. adults still spend four times as much time watching TV as they do digital video. And U.S. advertisers put seven times as many dollars toward TV ads as they spend online. Investors say they want to see more entrepreneurs spin up video companies that emphasize Facebook, its Instagram imagesharing app, Snapchat and, to a lesser extent, Twitch and Twitter. The interest follows years of investment in companies anchored on YouTube, some of which sold to media giants including AT&T, RTL Group and Walt Disney. Among unresolved issues is which service to focus on. Because Snapchat displays videos in full screen with sound, they must attract viewers differently from those appearing on the Facebook news feed, where videos are silent until viewers click on them. Snapchat also lacks live-streaming, and videos disappear from the service after 24 hours.
