Competition cheer, dance teams celebrate By Lauren Green and Emily VanBockern The WHS competition cheer and dance teams recently celebrated their seasons at their end-of-season banquet Nov. 1 at the Icon Lounge in downtown Sioux Falls. The competition cheer team overcame many team injuries, but they fought hard to finish in second place at the state competition in Aberdeen. Alissa Sendelbach, head competition cheer coach, said she was proud of her team’s accomplishments. “With six graduating seniors, we will definitely

feel their absence next year,” Sendelbach said. “We were very fortunate to have had such a strong group of senior leaders. They have helped prepare the underclassman for next season, and we know what is expected of us next year to win that state title.” Senior cheerleader Sydney Raabe was happy. “We peaked at the right time and came together as a team,” Raabe said. The cheerleaders were up and down all season, but finished the state tournament in second place with a 263.5 score, defeating previously

unbeaten Roosevelt and finishing only a few points behind champion Brandon Valley. The dance team won nine of their 11 competitions this season, and finished their season with their second consecutive State AA title. Head coach Angela Nieman was very pleased. “I feel like the team really worked hard to overcome some serious injuries,” Nieman said. “The senior leadership and talents of Amy Walker and Lauren Zimbeck will be missed tremendously next year.” WHS had a 289.17 average score at state.

This is it—get ready to cheer on Saturday The time has come, ladies and gentlemen, to cheer on our Warrior football team for the last time this season. For us seniors, this will be the last time in our high school careers. Seniors, look back on the past four years. We started off in the back, suffering the boos of the upperclassmen, yearning to be closer and closer to the front. We worked our way up, and now it’s our turn. Now is our time to cheer loudly and proudly for all players, espeHear me. . . cially the senior boys who have worked tirelessly to get where they Maham Shah are now. Rest up your voice and body this Friday to be ready to give it your all. Saturday, embrace the three T’s—Travel, Tailgate and Thank. Traveling to the dome is always a great time to get pumped for the game! Pack a car full of your friends, blast some lit tunes, and (safely) cruise down I-29, ready to cheer on the boys. Tailgating is an awesome way to bond with your fellow Warriors. Whether it’s at CJ Callaway’s with the Walkers or at the dome itself, it’s always fun to sit back, relax, eat, and enjoy the calm before the storm. Lastly, Thank. After the night is all said and done, don’t forget to thank everyone who worked so hard to get the team where they are now. This includes all players, coaches and even parents. We couldn’t have done it without them! So Warriors, I better see each and every one of you Saturday night in Vermillion cheering the Warriors to another victory! Senior Maham Shah wants to thank the Walkers for all their love and support.

Four named to All-Metro Conference Volleyball teams By Jhoseline Fuentes, Aime Bitn and Tyler Stephens Four WHS team members were recently named to the Metro Conference AllConference Volleyball Team or honorable mention. Senior Emily VanBockern and sophomore Lily Bartling were named to the All-Conference Team, and junior Hailey Olson and sophomore Peyton Rymerson were honorable mention. WHS advanced to the State AA Tournament with a District 2AA Championship Saturday. The State AA brackets will be finalized later tonight, after the Region

1 and 2 games. In Region 1, Harrisburg will host O’Gorman and Lincoln will host Watertown and in Region 2 Douglas will host Pierre and Aberdeen Central will host Rapid City Central tonight. The winners will advance to the State AA Tournament and the losers will end their seasons. The State AA Tournament is Nov. 17-19 at the Swiftel Center in Brookings. VanBockern is excited to see who WHS’s competition will be. “Since three years ago we’ve been counting down to the day to make it to state,” VanBockern said.

‘Overwatch’ league to debut soon By Paresh Dave Los Angeles Times (TNS) LOS ANGELES — Blizzard Entertainment pioneered e-sports with its “Starcraft” franchise more than a decade ago. Now, with “Overwatch,” the Los Angeles-area video game maker wants to bring to e-sports the wealth and recognition that sports such as soccer, football and basketball generate.

Technology Watch To do so, Blizzard Entertainment, a division of Activision Blizzard Inc., announced last week it will adopt hallmarks of traditional sports leagues to form an e-sports league more instantly relatable than others spawned in the last few years. Blizzard envisions professional teams for the shooting game “Overwatch” based in major cities worldwide. Players would be scouted and signed through free agency and receive guaranteed salaries and benefits. Feeder leagues would help train players up for the pros. Potential team owners are expected to bid millions of dollars in the coming months to be one of the league’s founding members. Their team’s slot in the league would be permanent. “The Overwatch League represents ... a genuine career opportunity for the most skilled Overwatch players,” Blizzard Entertainment Chief Executive Mike Morhaime said in a statement. “We’re building a league that’s accessible to players and fans, sustainable, and exciting for everyone involved.”
