32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time "Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury." Just two small coins, worth only a few cents--this was the greatest contribution of the day? Jesus explains that this widow's tiny sum was generous in a way that the larger amounts people gave were not. Others made noticeable, "impressive" donations to the Temple treasury, which in fact cost them nothing. These were simply "from their surplus wealth." But the poor widow "contributed all she had, her whole livelihood." She was truly generous, giving what cost her dearly. Her contribution was made out of love, not just out of obligation or for the sake of show. God has given us all different "livelihoods." Some of us have more money, more talents, more resources. Some of us have less. But of course we know that God's love for us is not based on this external data. He loves the rich and the poor alike. The question is whether this external data affects our love for God. Sometimes, those who are poor are more aware of God's providence and protection. Sometimes, they are bitter. As for those who are rich, it can be tempting to feel so comfortable and complacent that they don't recognize their need for God or his action in their lives. But Jesus' message challenges us all today to gratefully give back to God in thanks for whatever he has given us, be it small or great. We are called not to give from our surplus but to share from our very livelihood. That is to say, we are called to acknowledge that our livelihood itself, no matter the details, is a gift from God. Let us follow the wisdom of the widow who showed gratitude for what she had and was truly generous in spite of what she lacked.

Prayer for Veterans Heavenly Father,

Maintenance Department Ed Nash [email protected], ext. 308

On this day, help us remember those who gave of themselves to keep us safe and secure. Enkindle in our consciences a desire to serve those who served their country selflessly.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Karen Stockton, [email protected]

Give us the grace to aid those who have given aid and protection to us and others both here and overseas. Let us never forget the causes for which they fought or the bravery they showed on the battlefield.

Prayer & Liturgy Judy Mullins, [email protected]

May we be always be mindful of those who paid the price for our freedom, just as your Son gave his life to free us from the bondage of sin.

Evangelization Paul Wajda, [email protected]

Amen.

Whatever you know (or don’t know), this week’s session will introduce you to the Catholic understanding of Scripture. Pre-registration IS NOT REQUIRED. All are welcome!

CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC CHURCH

32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

2015 CRAFT FAIR!!

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD (CLOW)! Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) could not exist without the dedication, commitment and talent of our fabulous volunteers. Thanks to their help, the children in our parish are able to focus on and appreciate the Word of God.

Saturday, November 7, 9am-6pm Sunday, November 8, 9am-1pm The Craft Fair is one of the largest fundraisers at Corpus Christi! There is something for the whole family: -Over 30 vendors with unique crafts (great for Christmas gifts!) -Church Mice (handmade items for sale made throughout the year by Corpus Christi parishioners) -Crafts for Kids (your children will work with members of the Youth Ministry to create their own gifts!) -Over a dozen items and baskets to raffle -Bake Sale -Lunch and coffee throughout the day This is the perfect family event as we anticipate the Christmas season! Be sure to make time to stop by. Can you help? We need volunteers to help clean up and put tables away. Just show up at 1:00 on Sunday and we’ll put you to work!

THANKSGIVING BASKETS! Again, this year Corpus Christi is organizing Thanksgiving dinner baskets for a number of families in the local area, providing turkeys, hams, canned goods and other food to last them at least a week.

We currently are in need of additional volunteers for our program. We especially invite and encourage the parents of the youth who attend CLOW to become session leaders. Our volunteers, many of whom were reluctant to join this ministry, find it very rewarding. In addition to deepening their knowledge and understanding of the weekly scripture readings through preparing for the session, the children bring a genuine and fresh perspective to God’s word! Volunteering in the CLOW program does NOT require comprehensive knowledge in scripture or the liturgy, nor does it take a big time commitment. CLOW volunteers are reliable, have a love of children and a passion for God's Word. Volunteers receive training prior to working in the program and are provided the materials and resources each week needed to lead the children’s liturgy. Volunteers are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to Mass to assist in the setup of the liturgy space. Volunteers sign up on a semester long basis and commit to the number of Masses that fit their schedule and only for the dates that work for them. To learn more about our CLOW program or to volunteer, please call the Faith Formation office 877-8506 ext. 373 or email Eileen Earle at [email protected]

RECYCLING BIN! Many of you have noticed that the green recycling bin has not been available for the past couple weeks. The company that serviced this bin, Green Fiber, stopped service in our region. In the past, they gave us a check each month based on the weight of the recycled materials. We have not found another company that provides the same service (do you know of one? Call us!). Until we find a service like Green Fiber, we will not have a recycle bin available to parishioners. Please do not leave recycled material (or trash) in the dumpster area. All dumpsters and trashcans are for parish use only. Thank you for your understanding.

ARE YOU SIGNED UP??!

Please leave non-perishable items such as canned vegetables, gravy, cranberry sauce, coffee, sugar, flour, baby food, stuffing mix, tea, napkins, and new reusable grocery bags in the Thanksgiving Basket Project donation bin located in the church gathering area. Please leave perishable items such as butter, Apples, Oranges, Celery and Pies in the refrigerator in the kitchen. All food should be delivered to the church by Sunday, November 22nd. Contact Linda Marra-Thompson (366-6955 or email [email protected]) with any questions or if you would like to help us out with sorting and packing the baskets for the families on Tuesday November 24th. The recipients are so grateful and overwhelmed with your gift giving generosity. Thank you.

ONE LAST DAY! Wednesday, November 11, 2-9pm Sign up in the Gathering Area or online. Don’t miss out! ! !

Please call: Jackie (518) 810-1150.

Q & A! Q: As we celebrate Veterans Day, what should be the Christian attitude in resorting to violence to resolve conflicts? A: Veterans are rightly honored for their role in defending the country, especially in time of conflict and violence. Yet, resorting to violence as a means of trying to resolve human conflicts is not the Christian way to deal with relationships. Jesus models the image of God in which all are valued and cherished as God's children, no matter who they are or which side they are on. In times of war and military struggles, it is difficult to make these kinds of distinctions. Yet distinctions have to be made, and values have to be examined in determining what justice demands. Sometimes violence may be justified, but only as a means of last resort, when all possible options have been exhausted, and when greater harm might result. Those who fight and defend under such circumstances must be supported, cared for, valued, and honored. At the same time, institutions who declare that violence is the only means left to resolve a conflict have to examine continuously their motives and agendas. Those who push institutions to such deep selfexamination should be as valued as those who are defending the institution. Both play important and necessary roles, and as such both are truly patriotic. Such tensions prevent blind nationalistic slogans like "our country, right or wrong" from seeing the light of day. Let us pray for all veterans, as well as for those who seek to negotiate peace, that God may truly guide us all in the path of justice.
