Dear Ockley Green Families: Over the 2016-2017 winter heating season, PPS has been conducting the district-wide initial radon testing it began last spring based on the requirements of new legislation mandating radon testing in every school by January 2021. Where initial test results were above 4 picocuries per liter, secondary testing was conducted. This week, results of secondary testing have identified that the gym at Ockley Green exceeded the Environmental Protection Agency’s and Oregon Health Authority’s action levels. Please see the test results in this report. We have consulted with the Oregon Health Authority for guidance on immediate public health risks. While long-term exposure to radon presents a health risk, there are no imminent short-term health risks. This location will now be evaluated for a permanent radon mitigation system. On February 2nd, we began instituting steps to reduce the radon in this location by running the HVAC system 24 hours a day to bring constant outside air into the spaces to pressurize the building. Maintaining a positive pressure in the building has been proven to keep radon out. Continuous radon monitors have measured radon levels over the weekend and as soon as those results are available, we will share them with you. The gym will remain unoccupied until additional test results are complete. Please visit the radon section of the PPS Healthy and Safe Schools web page. If you have any questions about testing and plans moving forward please direct them to
[email protected]. Your child’s safety and well-being remains our highest priority and we will provide further updates as we work to resolve this issue. Hello OGMS Families! Thank-you for supporting our students in the ''25 Books! Challenge" so far this year. Collectively our OGMS reading dragons have read over 2500 books! This is phenomenal! Our next Progress Check is on Tuesday, February 21st. Students will need to have read five new books and turned in their five response sheets to their Language Arts teacher, Ms. Graham in the Library or to the OGMS office. The next incentive is a Pizza Party on Tuesday, February 28th and recognition at our Discretion Assembly on Friday, February 24th. If your child needs inspiration in finding a book to read, Ms. Graham has a great Instagram page full of ideas: @ockleygreenreads.
