First Sunday of Advent The countercultural John the Baptist may have had an odd sense of style by our standards (he wore camel hair) and he may have consumed an unappealing diet (locusts and wild honey), but he had his finger on the pulse of what really mattered. He needed little in the way of worldly comforts because he was consumed with his task of spiritually preparing those who were willing to hear for the One who would come to baptize with the power of the Holy Spirit. What mattered was this future revelation, and John would let nothing that belongs to this earthly existence get in the way of his preparation for that revelation. In his second letter, Peter tells us that all will dissolve away and through holiness and devotion we will be made ready for the Lord's coming. The trends we get caught up in will seem empty and meaningless. All that will remain is God and those created in his image, and the relationships we have between us. What matters to you, right here and right now, on this Second Sunday of Advent? We don't have to trade in brand-name clothes for camel hair, but we need to ask ourselves: if we were called to give it all away tomorrow for Jesus, would we be mature enough to do so? The answer to this question lies at the heart of stewardship. Reflection Adults: "He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." During this Advent season, what do you need in your life to prepare yourself for the Lord? How does what you need change your life? Youth: Having been baptized with the Holy Spirit, we are to be persons who live for peace, kindness, truth and justice. How does peace, kindness, truth and justice fit into your life? What can you do during this Advent season to show your peace, kindness, justice and truth? How does what you choose to do affect or change your life? $ Holy Day of Obligation: The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC CHURCH!
SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
A NOTE FROM FR. JIM!
THE GIVING TREE!
My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As I attempt to return to more active ministry in our parish following my major surgery and while still undergoing my chemotherapy, I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for the love you’ve shown through the many cards, prayers, gifts, and visits that you’ve showered me with during my illness. It has been a long journey and is not yet completed. I give my sincere thanks to God, my family, my doctors and nurses, and you - my parish family, for your faithful support. I am blessed by your many acts of kindness and remember you all in my daily prayers. I am extremely grateful for the many hours of support by our parish staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers. They have given so generously of their time and talents in keeping the parish running so smoothly. I am indebted to the many priests of the diocese who have covered our masses, funerals, weddings, baptisms and met your spiritual needs. I’d like to give an extra ‘shout out’ to our altar servers and all liturgical ministers that have patiently served and continue to serve the various priests (and their particular mannerisms) that we rely upon. We will have many new faces this Advent and Christmas season. The Church needs the many gifts and talents of each of us to help bring the kingdom of God into this world. Be the warm and welcoming parish that we’ve always been in our community. Invite your friends and neighbors and, yes, those who haven’t been to church in some time. This can be a very special coming of the Lord for those who have drifted away from the church and are now searching and seeking to renew their relationship with our loving Father. In His peace,
Fr. Jim BREAKFAST WITH SANTA! BREAKFAST WITH SANTA: Sunday, December 21st in the parish center. Breakfast is from 8:30am - 1:00pm. The annual Giving Tree tags are now available on the Christmas Tree in the Gathering Area. Please consider choosing a tag or two and purchase a gift for those in our region who are less fortunate. Each year for over 20 years you have shown your support and generosity to families in our area – Thank You
ADOPT A FAMILY!
If you are interested in ADOPTING a family, child, 2 children, etc. (this means buying GIFTS for them…not food) please call Barbara White @ 289-5059 or email
[email protected] Please know that this is a “Giving Program” OTHER than the “Christmas Giving Tree.” Please understand that whatever you purchase for your “adoptee” is likely to be ALL they will receive. Thank you for your continued generosity in helping those less fortunate.
WORK OF HUMAN HANDS! While we’ve had our share of extreme weather in the past few years, in other parts of the world natural disasters often occur in addition to chronic, abject poverty. They are not asking for a handout, but just that we take a little time to browse among the useful, unusual and charming products that they have created, and hopefully may purchase something. Craft Fair is this weekend in the Parish Hall after all Masses.
MUSIC MINISTRY! You are invited to join the Adult Choir and assist in providing music for the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses this year. We welcome new members to the parish and people who have been here for decades! The choir is enriched by each and every voice: high or low, loud or soft, young or old. Join us for rehearsals on Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm in the church.

ADVENT BANNER! The symbols, which are displayed on the banner, are just a few of the advent symbols that come on a Jesse tree, which represents Jesus Family Tree. The symbols are as follows: Harp favorite instrument of Hebrews, especially King David used to give praise and glory to God; Star - six pointed star of David symbolizes the lineage of Christ from the royal house of David; Lily - Chastity, purity and resurrection; Ark - is symbol of baptism and the church; Key - Key to the Kingdom; Crown - worn by Kings or a symbol of what awaits us after salvation; Ladder – Jacobs’ ladder is interpreted as Christ reuniting mankind to God and the Book is God’s Word. The banner was painted 25 - 30 years ago by one of our former parishioners.

GIVING THANKS!! Now is the season we give thanks to God for all He has done for us this past year and throughout our lives. It is also a good time to begin considering how we might give back some of our wealth or assets to Him through His Church with a special year-end gift of cash or appreciated assets such as shares of stock. You can designate such a gift in memory of a deceased loved one or in honor of one who is still living. Your gift to Corpus Christi Church allows us together to support the mission of Christ in the world. You may make your contribution directly to the parish by mail or in the offertory providing the names for any memorial gift. For gifts of stocks, bonds, or property please contact Matt Duclos at the office, 877-8506. Please cut out and submit via mail or the offertory basket. Gift is in memorial/honor of: __________________________ Gift given by: ______________________________________ I wish to remain anonymous

WELCOME TABLE! One carton of oranges is $30.00; one bushel of apples is $17.00 and one bag of onions is $17.00. This is a chance for you to help us with our diminishing budget. We are asking for donations: either a crate or half-crate or any amount which can be applied towards this wonderful ministry. Please put your donations in an envelope marked "Welcome Table" and place it in the collection basket at Mass or drop it off to Matt in the front office.
