Westwood Elementary PTA Meeting Minutes September 12, 2016 – 6:30p Attendees: Jason Thiel, Mary Thiel, Sara Jacobs, Amanda Remer, Nicole Dove, Vicki Eikaas, Betsy Warren, Leah Squires, Angie Hannan, Deborah Battles, Rachel Williams, Taylor Durry, Jordan Wilmer, Christina Diaz, John Polhill, Lori Klass, John Klapak, Hugh Roberts, Terry Lecher, Erin Haley Strub, Dan Stirratt, Erin Copeland Meeting called to order by Jason Thiel at 6:35pm. Introductions • 2015-2016 Changes – Jason Thiel • Playground Budget • Regained tax-exempt status • Removed funding for recess supervisors and created Grant Program 2016-2017 Budget – Mary Thiel & Jason Thiel • 2015-2016 Grant Program was $8,500 raised to $11,000 for 2016-2017 • $300/grade Scholastic account added for 2016-2017 • 4th Grade Kindness retreat account added for $2,000 for 2016-2017 • 2015-2016 budget $12,000 Surplus • 2016-2017 budget $11,815 deficit • Prior year surplus $27,150 • Playground budget $17,122 Ongoing Fundraising – Jason Thiel • Coke rewards ◦ Collect codes from top of bottle of coke products and redeem for $ • Amazon Smiles ◦ Shop online at Amazon and register under WESTWOOD BLOOMINGTON PTA and a portion of what you spend will go back to Westwood • Box Tops ◦ Box Tops collected through the year and will also have a few contests to see what grade level can collect the most – prizes awarded PTA Committees – Sara Jacobs • Sara touched base on each committee and explained how we need volunteers to help with each committee. 2016-2017 committees are: Dines-Outs, Family Fun Nights, Ongoing Fundraising, Parade, Room Parent Coordinators, Spiritwear, Teacher Conference/Appreciation Meals, VEAP, Walk-A-Thon & Yearbook. Principal's Report – Hugh Roberts • Thank you to the PTA for everything PTA does • Talked about his past teacher/principal jobs & his family • Shared his beliefs, goals and the future of Westwood Teacher’s Report – Lori Klass • Thank you to the PTA for the purchase of the Planners for the kids • Extra Time Outside ◦ Each class will have an extra 15-20 per day to go outside in the morning or afternoon Bylaws Update – Jason Thiel • Introduced Proposed Changes • October 10th: vote on proposed changes and submit updated Bylaws to MNPTA for approval ◦ If proposals are approved, begin election process for Treasurer-Elect Upcoming Events – Jason Thiel • Westwood Dines for Donations @ Fuddrucker’s, Thursday, Sept.15 - ALL DAY! ◦ 20% of all sales received with the coupon will be donated to Westwood • Heritage Days Parade – Saturday, Sept. 17, 10:30am ◦ Float #20.
