George F. Baker High School Tuxedo Union Free School District | Tuxedo, New York

2017-2018 High School Profile The George F. Baker High School is the Tuxedo Union Free School District's high school serving grades 7 through 12. We are a unique high school serving the needs of students from Tuxedo, New York as well as students from others districts on a tuition basis. The administration and faculty take great pride in the friendly and supportive atmosphere of the school and the diverse programs that meet the varied needs of its student body while capitalizing on our small size to provide an individualized approach in a comprehensive public school setting. George F. Baker High School offers a range of academic programs to meet the needs of students at all levels. With a combination of accelerated, honors, Advanced Placement, and college-level courses, we ensure that students have access to courses that make sure they are college and career ready. Current college level courses that are offered at our school in partnership with SUNY Albany and SUNY Orange provide students with opportunities to earn over 30 college credits at our school. Students may also enroll in online courses through Virtual High School which provides diverse course offerings for students interested in additional courses. Our school also provides a full array of support services for students with diverse and special learning needs. These programs include self-contained and collaborative class settings and related services. The George F. Baker High School has also developed a fully integrated high school that will connect components of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and actively engage students in project-based, collaborative learning environments that incorporate and promote the use of higher level thinking, digital technologies, content-driven problem solving skills, and alternative assessments in EVERY CLASS. Our program is designed to provide relevant learning opportunities that allow ALL STUDENTS to become active and effective participants in the learning process. The George F. Baker High School has implemented a Google Apps for Education Initiative within the high school. Every student in grades 7-12 is provided with an HP Chromebook for the academic year. Students use their Chromebooks throughout their classes where they are able to take notes, share work electronically, and collaborate with their fellow classmates on various projects. The Chromebooks provide our students with greater access to resources and materials while reducing the amount of paper used in each class. George F. Baker’s projected graduating class of 2018 is comprised of 30 students. Historically, at least 85% of our students attend post-secondary schools. Student Life Our school balances a strong emphasis on academic programs with a variety of extra-curricular, co-curricular, and non-academic activities. Pep rallies, student produced concerts and plays and numerous community service projects foster a “family feel” among our students and staff. Students are encouraged to broaden their education and enrich their school life with involvement in extracurricular activities. Over 80% of the student body is involved in at least one extracurricular activity and many students participate in more than one club or team. Current Club offerings include Art Club, Band, Marching Band, Choir, Vocal & Jazz Ensemble, Dramas/Musicals, Engineering Club, Literary Magazine, Math Team, National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, Production Club, Student Council, and Yearbook. Interscholastic Sports programs include Football (Boys), Baseball (boys), Basketball (boys/girls), Cross Country (boys/girls), Soccer (boys/girls), Softball (girls), Volleyball (girls), and Wrestling (boys).
