Community Builders Break Ground on Innovative Urban Development in Downtown Bakersfield—17th Place Townhomes A group of local investors, led by Councilmember Bob Smith and his son Austin Smith, recently broke ground on a 44-‐unit luxury urban townhome development. An invite-‐only groundbreaking celebration will take place June 18, 2015. Respected community members, including Mayor Harvey L. Hall and Richard Chapman of the Kern Economic Development Corporation, are scheduled to speak about the project and what it means for the larger Bakersfield community.
Austin Smith explains: “We are eager to take part in the emergence of downtown. There is a larger movement to develop Bakersfield’s central core, and we feel honored to be a part of it. This project represents our attempt to keep pace with the demand for urban living in our community.”
17th Place Townhomes will be the first market-‐rate community within the city center. The development is nestled in the heart of downtown Bakersfield on a 1.25-‐acre site between 17th, 18th, N, and O Streets. 17th Place will fill a need for those who seek the excitement and convenience of living in an upscale urban setting. Residents will find themselves steps away from The Padre, The Fox Theater, Rabobank Arena, the Arts & Entertainment District, Mill Creek Park, Maya Cinema, Bakersfield Museum of Art, and dozens of dining options.
Smart design and livability went into every architectural decision for 17th Place. The modern design of 17th Place reflects a new wave of progress for downtown Bakersfield, executed with timelessness and sophistication. Each three-‐level townhome includes a private entrance and large windows with expansive views of downtown or the mountains. The entire community will be gated for added security. At 17th Place, spacious two-‐bedroom townhomes and community spaces are full of high-‐end features and finishes, such as private garages, in-‐unit washers and dryers, quartz countertops, stainless steel energy-‐ efficient kitchen appliances, quality cabinets, vinyl plank flooring, ultra high-‐speed Wi-‐Fi, LED lighting, no-‐ VOC paint, lush drought sensitive landscaping, secure courtyard space, tranquil fountains, barbeque, and fire pit.
