'Pep Clull The Pep Club is open to all the girls in high school. No dues are charged for membership in this organization. Each girl furnishes her own Pep Club uniform, which is voted on by the club at the beginning of each year. Pep Club members sit together at all athletic events. Members are expected to attend all home football and basketball games and to attend the games away from home if the bus is taken. The Pep Club meetings are held every Monday.

Driving aggressively from Coach Duane "Blackie" Melvin's rugged single-wing formation, the Rossville Bulldogs won six games, lost one, and tied one, to win the league championship. This ends four years of undefeated football in the league. Ten senior boys: Wayne Rasch, Ralph Marney , David McCelland, Lonnie Spiker , Bill Fauerbach, William Ent, Bill Colson, Charles Foster, Tom Bush, and Jerry Reser will be missed ne xt season. Wayne Rasch , Ralph Marney, David McCelland, seniors ; James Stadler, Tom Lacock, juniors; and Dudley Fryman, sophomore, received honorable mention on the All Area Team.

Homecominq. The halftime festivities opened with the Rossville Drill Team performing two numbers, but the highlight of the evening was the crowning of Janet Harth, Queen; and Billy Fauerbach, King. Their attendants were Sharon Davis, Lonnie Spiker, Carol Rafferty, and Wayne Rasch. After the game the royal couple reigned over the homecoming dance.

Pre-homecoming activities began Thursday night with a pep-rally and the burning of the Alma blue devil. Because it was raining an all-school pep-rally was held in the gym on Friday afternoon instead of the traditional parade.

Rossville "A" squad won a trophy in the Regional Tournament for the first time in fourteen years. They were first in the league, first in the county, second in the district, and third in the regional tournaments. The record for the season stands at twenty wins and four losses. Mrs. Jeannine Wallace directed the Rossville High School Band of 35 members through another year of activities. The Band participated in Band Day at K. U., presented a Thanksgiving program, and a spring concert. At the Spring Music Festival the band received a two rating. New equipment purchased by the school was a tenor saxophone. The Pep Band, directed by Mrs. Wallace, performed during the half times of the football games. A girls drill team accompanied the Pep Band in performing frills and a skit for half time entertainment. The Mixed Chorus consisted of eight boys and sixteen girls under the direction of Mrs. Jeannine Wallace. They participated in the Thanksgiving program, Spring Concert, and the Spring Music Festival. In the Spring Music Festival they received a I rating. Mary Brethour and Diane Swenson accompanied the group. The Triple Trio, RIGHT, the sextette, BELOW, and the Senior Trio, BELOW, FAR RIGHT, were groups of girls selected by Mrs. Wallace for special singing. The Spring Music Festival, the Junior Play, the Thanksgiving program, the Sweetheart Ball, and the Spring Concert were some of the activities in which one or more of the groups performed.

The English I class, taught by Mrs. Carey, includes as a part of their .work autobiographical booklets of fifteen chapters and six book reports. Throughout the year grammar, composition, and literature are also studied.
The home economics class is taught by Mrs. Fisher. In this class the members learn the fundamentals of homemaking. First semester is spent in sewing and the second semester in cooking.
The government c1ass, taught by Mr. Richardson, ·i s a required course for the seniors. During the year, they learn how to fill out income tax forms, and study different divisions of our national, state, and county government. Also, each Friday everyone gives a current event;·

The physics class is an elective course for seniors. Some of the projects the class did this year were both individual and group experiments, group reports, and 2000 word term papers. The class had the use of a new laboratory table and new physics chart.
Boys in vocational agriculture learn the useful arts of farm mechanics and applied agriculture. Farm management and farm records are an essential part of this elective course. Vocational Agriculture is available to farm boys for four years with a possibility of receiving five credits.
American history makes the student aware of his country's heritage and stimulates interest in current affairs, helps the individual to understand his government so that he can take an active and intelligent part in its progress, and instills in the student a respect for people all over the world.

Miss Miller's geometry class is an elective course composed mostly of sophomores. Throughout the year they study angles and other geometric figures. Each individual is required to construct a group of angles and the neatest and most accurate group is displayed in the room.
The librarians, under the guidance of Mrs. Carey, learn to process new books, keep books in order according to the Dewey Decimal System, and check books in and out. They also keep the library and magazine rack in order.
Mrs. Juanita Simmers taught the two classes of typing I, which were first and fifth periods. During the course, the students did time writings, tabulations, and wrote business and personal letters.

Behind the See
Type A lunches are served in the Rossville High School lunch room. They cost the student only $. 30 and provide a third to a half of his daily nutritional needs. The type A lunch is a pattern which all schools participating in the National School Lunch Program must follow to be eligible for four cents per lunch reimbursement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The lunches include a vitamin C food every day and a vitamin A food twice a week. The students thank Mrs. Rafferty and Mrs. Parr for serving these meals.
The custodian of Rossville High School is Mr. Guy Strimple. In addition to caring for the building and property, he is present at all activities and does other different jobs around the school. The students appreciate the clean, well kept building. WEHNER 1S I.G.A. STORE ROSSVILLE,

Mr. Clyde Strimple and Mr. Clarence Dick were the drivers of the buses that brought the high school students to and from school each day. They also drove the bus to football and basketball games away from Rossville, class trips, and to the music contests. Their cooperation and courtesy were greatly apprecia ted by everyone. Wayne Rasch and Diane Swenson were chosen the King and Queen of the Sweetheart Swirl at an all school election and reigned over the annual Pep Club formal dance on Tuesday, February 2. Lonnie Spiker, Kenneth Heiland, Sharon Reser, and Carol Rafferty were attendants to the royal couple. The names of the king and queen were not revealed until the coronation Tuesday evening at which time they were crowned.

The Athletic Director of Kansas State University, Mr. "Bebe" Lee, was the guest speaker at the Banquet of Champions sponsored by the Lion's Club, March 28. The dinner, which honored the Rossville High and Grade School athletes, was prepared by the Altar Society of the Catholic Church. Presentation of letters and introduction of the grade school athletes followed a violin solo by Mary Brethour and a vocal solo by Pam Berkey.

The English IV class made up the news staff. There were five editors as pictured to the left, and the rest of the class were reporters. Each week Sharon Davis assigned different reporters a news story. The deadline for the news to be at the Reporter office was 4:00p.m. Monday. The Student Council selected a public address system, made partial payment on the concession stand, and put into effect safety proJects as special services to the school this year. Each year the Student Council, governing body of Rossville High School, introduces faculty approved rules for the students and publishes a handbook of rules and regulations, sport schedules, and organizations. The activities it sponsors are a freshman mixer dance, Christmas party, and homecoming. The Council also plans a program of work in concession stand for the different organizations and decides the amount each organization receives. ABOVE: Ralph Marney, in the spring of 1959, was elected by the student body to represent them as Student Council President. Ralph ran on the Federalist ticket against Janet Harth of the Nationalist Party and Sharon Davis of the Independent Party.
LEFT: Janet Harth and Jerry Reser were sent by the local American Legion to Boys' and Girls' State. The Boys' State was held at Wichita and Girls' State at the University of Kansas. The groups organized their own government modeled after that of Kansas, elected officers from its own membership and for one week functioned as a governmental unit.

The most important night of the year for the seniors was the Junior-Senior Prom. The theme was "Cinderella Ball" carried out in the royal colors of purple, red . and yellow. The dinner was prepared by the junior mothers and served by the sophomore girls. J. W. Adams was toastmaster with Jane Zickefoose giving the welcome, Janet Harth the response, and Mr. Richardson, the faculty farewell. The program consisted of a song by Ruth Miller and Mary Brethour and a monologue by Gene Davis. Music for the dance was furnished by the Seaman Dance Band.

Twenty-two seniors and five spansors left May 5 at 5:00A.M. for the Allendale Resort at Branson, Missouri in the Ozarks . On the morning of May 6, the group visited the School of the Ozarks and Marvel Cave. Shopping, movies, dancing, swimming, boating and water fights were enjoyed by the seniors. They left for home Saturday May 7.

We Look Back-and .,qhead Lynda Allen Baccalaureate and Commencement! They finally came on May 15 and May 17 after four years of hard work, many activities, and much fun. Under the leadership of Janet Harth, president; William Ent, vice-president; Sandra Whittet, secretary; and Jerry Reser, treasurer; our senior year was the highlight of four years. It included, among other activities, the senior sneak to Branson, Missouri, the senior play called Man Overboard, the Junior-Senior Prom, and the annual magazine sales. Ralph Marney was president of the Student Council; Sharon Davis and Kenneth Heiland were Council representatives. Mr. Richardson and Mrs. Simmers supervised our activities and gave us advice when needed. In our junior year the play, The Doctor Has~Daughter; and the Junior-Senior Prom, the theme of which was "A Song in My Heart," were important events. This year Jerry Reser was president; William Ent, vice-president; Kenneth Heiland, secretary; Ralph Marney, treasurer; Carol Raffery and Wayne Rasch, Student Council representatives. Mr. Williams and Mrs. Carey were the faculty advisers. We were introduced to high school studies and activities in our freshman and sophomore years. Class parties and hayrack rides, the Snowflake Ball, Sweetheart Ball, and Mother-Daughter Banquet were among the annual events. Ralph Marney, president of the sophomore class, guided us through that year; and Wayne Rasch steered us through the freshman year. Other sophomore officers were William Ent, vice-president; Mary Smith, secretary; Janet Harth, treasurer; Carol Rafferty and Kenneth Heiland, Council representatives. In our freshman year other officers were Kenneth Heiland, vicepresident; Carol Rafferty, secretary; Diane Swenson, treasurer; Jariet Harth and Charles VanVleck, Student Council representatives. Along with our activities have gone many hours of studying and preparation for a new adventure in life. Now, at the end of four years we not only look backward, but we also look forward to the future and its delightful uncertainty.

The Rossville Chapter of Future Farmers of America held its annual Parent -Son Banquet, December 1, from 6:30 to 8: 30 in the gymnasium. The tables were decorated in the traditional colors of the F. F. A., which are gold and blue. For the program several of the members presented two skits called "Willie, the Scientific Farmer" and "The Meaning of F. F. A.
