THE PARK-HUNTERSVILLE February 2017 . Go Red Trivia:

One of the most proactive ways to fight heart disease is to know your numbers? What numbers are we talking about ? Hint: There are four categories we should be watching.

3. What is the most common reason women give when asked why they don’t exercise?

The first person to email [email protected] with ALL 3 correct answers will win a Park Huntersville prize.

February is National Heart Month with a special emphasis on the Go Red For Women Campaign. Go Red for Women wants to remind everyone of some easy ways to bring awareness of the #1 killer in women. What does it mean to Go Red? It means supporting women as we break the barriers against heart disease and stroke. Show your support for women to increase funding, education and awareness with these ideas:

1. Know Your Heart Score Visit the Go Red website at www.GoRedforWomen.org to access the interactive tools to determine your risk factors. Learn why it’s important to know your heart score on Go Red. Think you are eating right and getting enough exercise? It takes five minutes to make sure. Take the My Life Check and find out where you stand. You can also take the Go Red Heart Check Up to get more tailored advice and information to improve your heart health.

2. Live Healthy Learn new ways to prevent heart disease with heart-healthy recipes, exercises and more on Go Red For Women where a team of cardiologists, medical and fitness experts and nutritionists offer their advice to women for living a healthy lifestyle.

3. Know the Signs of a Heart Attack Watch Go Red For Women’s “Just a Little Heart Attack” video, starring and directed by Elizabeth Banks, to learn how to identify a heart attack. Learn more about the symptoms of a heart attack and stroke on the Go Red website.

4. Start Walking Get moving and start walking by starting or joining a walking club with friends or coworkers. 30 minutes of daily exercise can cut your risk factors by huge amounts.

5. Wear Red Brighten your wardrobe and support women fighting heart disease by wearing red and explaining what Going Red means.

The Courtyards at Kinnamon Park an Epcon Community of Maintenance-Free, Ranch-Style Homes There’s nothing like enjoying a North Carolina day—or evening, for that matter—from your front porch. Epcon Communities, an award-winning homebuilder, has recognized the value of this outdoor extension of your home. The company is introducing the American Porch Collection, beginning with the first phase of its Huntersville community, The Courtyards at Kinnamon Park. Epcon’s newest community in the Charlotte area will feature 94 single-family homes from the American Porch Collection. This portfolio of new home designs brings a single-story wrapped around a private courtyard—with the enhancement of a covered front porch. The porches are intended to encourage socialization, a focus that is obvious with the community’s other features. Residents of The Courtyards at Kinnamon Park can also enjoy the clubhouse, swimming pool, bocce ball court, pickleball court, two community gardens, and walking paths. Every Epcon Community is built on a common standard of maintenance-free living. Homeowners enjoy the freedom from exterior maintenance all year round! “This is the most amenity-rich community we’ve developed in Charlotte so far,” explains Phil Fankhauser, who founded the company with Ed Bacome in 1986. “We’ve always focused on creating a lifestyle experience for our communities, and the expansion into the American Porch Collection is a perfect fit.” The Courtyards at Kinnamon Park is located less than two miles from I-77 and minutes from I-485. The Charlotte Douglas International Airport is an easy 18-mile drive, and Uptown Charlotte is only 12 miles from this community. One-third of Phase One homes were sold before the groundbreaking, and Fankhauser expects this demand to continue. The showcase home at The Courtyards at Kinnamon Park will be open in February. The model is the Portico design from the American Porch Collection. The Portico’s open floor plan, gourmet kitchen, and ample spaces for living and storage have made the plan one of the most sought-after. Yet, says Fankhauser, there are countless ways for the homeowner to customize the home, like adding a second-floor bonus suite, extending the courtyard, or adding a sitting room to the owner’s suite. “We start with the design,” says Fankhauser. “Then our homeowners add their vision, and, together, we create a truly unique home.” Since their beginning three decades ago, Epcon Communities has built more than 28,000 homes in 28 states. Each home provides maintenance-free living, with all exterior services included. For more information about www.epconcommunities.com.

#GoRedGetFit

Frequently Asked Questions What is #GoRedGetFit?

How can I become a part of #GoRedGetFit?

#GoRedGetFit is a healthy lifestyle campaign designed by Go Red for Women® and Macy’s to engage fitness and media influencers who resonate with women of color to attract them to fitness and wellness with an actionable, measurable and visible social/digital campaign.

Join the #GoRedGetFit facebook.com/groups/ GoRedGetFit and begin a healthy lifestyle journey that positively impacts the way you look and feel, inside and out! #GoRedGetFit is a health and fitness challenge that combines nationally known and influential celebrity fitness trainers with the power, influence and encouragement of real women like YOU!

#GoRedGetFit will build a groundswell of women engaged in changing social norms and behaviors as it relates to healthy eating, reducing sodium consumption, increasing intake of fruits and vegetables, decreasing consumption of sugar and sugar-sweetened beverages, reducing tobacco use and increasing physical activity. The campaign will be supported by four quarterly fitness challenges developed by the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women and the trainers with an accompanying dietary goal that aligns with the AHA Life’s Simple 7. The first challenge, “Take Steps to Drop the Sweets” focuses on walking 10,000 steps a day and limiting sugar intake to 24g per day. Additional challenges include: • “ Take Steps and Drop Sweets” (March – May): Walk 10,000 steps per day and limit sugar intake to 24 grams per day. • “ Up the Beat and Keep It 100” (June – August): Get 30 minutes of cardio per day, at least five days per week and drink at least 100 ounces of water per day, • “ I Run This Salty Shaker” (September – November): Get 30 minutes of physical activity, at least five days a week and limit sodium consumption to 1,500 milligrams per day. • “ Follow the Lead to Flawless” (December – February): Scripted exercises of the trainers’ choices and limit saturated fat consumption to 12 grams per day.

#GOREDGETFIT Frequently Asked Questions, continued Can I share #GoRedGetFit with my partners locally?

Is #GoRedGetFit only for Women of Color?

Yes, we encourage you to share #GoRedGetFit with your local strategic partners, alliances, community influencers and networks.

No, #GoRedGetFit is for every woman. Our trainers are people of color and the campaign has a targeted focus for women of color between the ages of 27-34, where disparities and need are greater to help drive towards the American Heart Association 2020 Impact Goal. #GoRedGetFit was created to impact, motivate and engage all women in prioritizing their heart health and well-being through a fit lifestyle.

Is there an opportunity to sell #GoRedGetFit? Yes, there are opportunities to sell #GoRedGetFit at the local level. However, prior to securing a local corporate partner, notify Arika Cason, [email protected] for proper vetting against conflicts with national corporate relationships. As the National Sponsor of Go Red For Women and Go Red Por Tu Corazón, Macy’s has heavy activation against #GoRedGetFit, as such, no other fashion retailers are permitted to sponsor #GoRedGetFit. How can I make #GoRedGetFit relevant to my community? We encourage and invite you to work with influential trainers in your market to localize #GoRedGetFit to your community. We will feature various participants and trainers throughout the campaign on the #GoRedGetFit hub at GoRedForWomen.org. If you have a dynamic trainer, they may end up as one of the national influencer trainers for the second year of the campaign!

DS-10032 GRFW Get Fit Flyers.indd 2

We encourage you to follow them, friend them, like them, etc. (@FollowtheLita, @ScottPFit, @AryNunez, @MariaGuerraTV) If you would like to speak with a trainer regarding a local event activation, please reach out to Arika Cason, [email protected] or Toiya Honore, [email protected].
