A letter from Mrs. Perriello Dear Walton Community,

Should you need this information translated, please contact the principal of your child's school. En caso de necesitar esta información traducida, por favor comuníquese con el director de la escuela de su hijo. Se você precisar de informações traduzido, por favor, entre em contato com o diretor da escola do seu filho.

Thank you to Mary Letchford and all our wonderful parent volunteers for planning, organizing, and facilitating our recent book fair. The students had the opportunity to add to their reading collection, and teachers to their classroom libraries. The Celebration of Learning was a wonderful evening with many tributes across schools dedicated to students, staff, and parent volunteers. We couldn’t do what we do without the help and support of all of you. Please note that April vacation begins at the end of the day on Thursday, April 17th. There will be no school on Friday, April 18th in observance of Good Friday. On behalf of the staff at the Walton School, I wish you a Happy Easter and Passover Holiday, and a safe and relaxing vacation week. We will welcome back our students on Monday, April 28th. Please visit my blog to view more photos. Warm Regards, Margo Perriello, Walton School Principal

FROM THE OFFICE Nurses Notes Smart Snacking: Keep a variety of fruit in the house. Go for kid favorites like bananas, apples, strawberries, and oranges, but also encourage your child to sample new varieties such as mangoes, kiwi, papaya or blackberries.

is a good idea to begin your daily allergy medication regime as soon as the grass and trees start to bloom.

Tip: Look for produce sales to keep costs down. Raw vegetables make great snacks. Offer green beans or baby carrots with a dip of low-fat ranch dressing. Look for healthier versions of snacks your children like. For instance, get baked crackers, whole-wheat pretzels, and low-fat string cheese. Take along healthy snacks when you go out. You’ll avoid stopping for fast food or buying junk food from snack bars or vending machines when your children are hungry.

4th Grade Physicals: Just a reminder that I am eagerly accepting Grade 4 physicals. A copy of the physical must be on file for your child to enter grade 5 at the Galvin Middle School in September. Any physical performed after June 1, 2013 is acceptable. If you have not yet done so, please send in a current physical for your 4th grade child. If the physical is to be done over this coming summer, please forward it to the Health Office at the Galvin before the first day of school.

Spring Allergies: In anticipation of spring allergies, get your allergy medications and inhalers up to date. It

WAKEFIELD PARENT PARTNERSHIP

Back by popular demand, Wakefield Parent Partnership will be hosting Rick Irving, the keynote for Wakefield Parent University on Wednesday, May 21 at 7 pm at The Savings Bank Theater at the High School. We would greatly appreciate it if you could fill out this quick survey over the next two weeks to give us an idea of which of the topics listed would be most desirable for people to hear Rick Irving talk about in May. Topics include teens and tweens, anxiety in children, communicating with your school-age child, and fostering respect and responsibility in children. We would also like to know what kinds of topics people would like to hear about in the future as well. Please follow this link to participate in the survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SRGYNT9

PENNY FROGS The winner of the April Penny Frog contest is Mrs. Liberti’s class. It was a very close race, but Mrs. Liberti beat Mrs. Maio, $7.86 to $7.75! Great job to both classrooms. Sadly, the other frogs were very hungry. There will be one more collection before the frogs hop away for the summer - bring in your pennies and feed those frogs.

April 28 Teacher Appreciation Week begins April 29 Flowers for teachers

www.wakefield.k12.ma.us/walton April 18, 2014

ALL AROUND WALTON Dear Families, On Tuesday, April 29, 2014, we will be celebrating our annual Flowers and Chocolate Day for Teacher Appreciation Week. If your family would like to participate in honoring our teachers, please send your child to school with: * two flowers * and a card for their teacher. Your child’s flowers will help make two bouquets. One bouquet will be for their teacher and the other flower will make a bouquet for a Walton specialty teacher (reading, art, gym etc.). When all of the flowers are placed together they will make a beautiful and unique bouquet—just like all the students that make up each beautiful and unique class. Thank you!
