Global Hope Network International

2014

Greetings and thank you for taking time to consider the work of Global Hope Network International. My name is Hal Jones and I am honored to serve as President of Global Hope Network International. My wife, Lana and I founded Global Hope Network International as a 501c3 non-profit organization in 2001 to empower rural villagers in Africa, Asia and the Middle East to end their own extreme poverty. We believe in empowering those living in poverty to find solutions best suited to their situations. Read the next few pages to discover how. Hal Jones, President

Five key areas of struggle have been identified by researchers as oppressors keeping those living in extreme poverty from building a strong future for themselves or their children. These areas are, clean and accessible water, a renewable and nutritious food source, education for children, knowledge of wellness habits and an income-generating source for families. GHNI National Leaders come alongside villagers to equip and empower them to resolve each key area. By forming committees to find culturally relevant solutions, villagers work together building a solid foundation for the future. Holistic, empowering and hope filled leadership ends poverty.

FOOD A nutritious and renewable food source is vital to the health and growth process of a human body. Often, the solution is growing food in a family plot or community garden.

WATER Clean, accessible water for washing, drinking and cooking prevents the spread of deadly disease in regions struggling to rise out of extreme poverty.

INCOME Income opportunities for families provide self-sustaining futures for generations.

WELLNESS Wellness training teaches habits and provides tools to prevent disease and ensures a person is healthy enough to work and go to school.

EDUCATION Education for ALL children is builds a solid foundation for the future.

This is TCD. Families work together to build a strong, self-sustaining community in their villages where previously, they lived on less that $1 USD per day, lacked sufficient food, water and experienced a high percentage of childhood mortality. After five years, every village desiring TCD has become self-sustaining and often, graduated villagers become leaders, teaching nearby villages TCD methods.

A Million Village Solution The first target of the Millennium Development Goals set by the United Nations is to decrease the extent of extreme poverty by one-half by the year 2015. Many who have worked with those living in extreme poverty have come to realize give away programs lead to dependency. We have found when leaders of a village understand, within the region of their village, exists all the resources to bring their village out of poverty and transform the lives of the villagers, a movement of transformation begins. Transformation snowballs from one village to the cluster of villages near it, eventually to the whole region and country. Now, hundreds of organizations are uniting to initiate self-led sustainable development in every country where extreme poverty still reigns in rural villages. It is our strong belief through cooperation, collaboration and training, one MILLION VILLAGES, EXISTING IN EXTREME POVERTY TODAY, CAN BE BROUGHT OUT OF POVERTY IN THIS GENERATION. GHNI is a key partner with over 500 other associations and we expect this to grow to over 1,000 by 2020. The facts: •

76% of the world’s poor live in rural areas hidden minority, left out of 95% of aid, without hope – hope is vital for progress to be achieved.

883 million people make less than US $1-a-day, over 1.5 billion less than $1.25 per day living in 1 million villages http://www.worldbankgroup.org/

The largest population in the world living in extreme poverty exists in rural areas. They live in remote areas great distances from markets or basic social services. The rural poor work, but in insecure and relatively low-paying jobs; they have little education or access to education, and may experience discrimination as women or members of ethnic minorities. Empowering rural villagers is a critical step in advancing the poverty alleviation effort. Empowerment must build on a person’s willingness and capacities to provide for their family and to forge a more dignified, promising future. Empowerment requires assets from which to build sustainable livelihoods, education about rights, a safe place to save to build assets and to cope with future hardships. In fact, basic financial services reach only 10% of rural communities. Working with partners to create models of sustainable transformation in villages in 78 countries. Each village is part of a cluster of 5-15 villages that begin to commence development within 2 years. We also use the Model Villages to train and empower other local associations and by 2020, 15-20% of One Million Villages will be in full development. We expect this to be the tipping point leading to an end to extreme poverty in rural villages.

WE INVITE YOU TO BE A KEY PARTNER IN THE MILLION VILLAGE CHALLENGE!!!
