Expectations

Rules - Be 1. Be Safe 2. Be Respectful 3. Be Responsible 3

Discipline: 3 Strike Rule 1. Verbal Warning 2. Time after school with Teacher (~30 minutes during ‘office hours’) 3. Principal’s Office Rewards: ● This system is similar to a punch card system at a coffee shop - you get so many punches/stickers you get a reward (in our case a Prize Card) ● Anytime I notice you doing something good you will receive one sticker on your School Rewards Card. ○ Examples Include (but are not limited to): ■ Getting a 100% on an assignment ■ Helping the teacher out before/after school ■ Being the only student in class to follow the entrance/exit rules ■ Assisting in creating the Word Walls ■ Including others ■ Participating in a discussion ■ Notice a mistake I made ■ Enter/Exit class properly ● When you receive 7 stickers you can turn your School Rewards Card in and receive a new School Rewards Card and get to draw a Prize Card out of the bucket

    Page 5

○ There are 5 different prize cards in the bucket, you will draw out one Prize Card from the bucket (before/after class or during office hours) ○ It will be a draw of chance and the Prize Cards are listed and explained below ■ Homework Pass ● The Homework Pass is for only one daily assignment (Algebra 1) or one of the 4-5 daily assignments that is part of the weekly assignment (Geometry/Pre-Calc) ○ To use the Homework Pass - staple it onto the page that has the daily homework that you would like to use it on. ○ The Homework Pass does not give you a 100% on the assignment, it just does not get entered into the gradebook, thus it is not a grade at all and completely free for you! ■ Extra Credit Points ● Hand this Prize Card to me and I will grant you 2 points of extra credit ■ Homework in pen or frilly paper ● Staple it on the front of the homework assignment ● This pass works for the whole week’s worth of homework (Geometry/Pre-Calc). ● You get to do a homework assignment in pen or turn in paper with frillies still on it ■ Listen to Music in Class ● Bring your own headphones and listen to music while you work on homework or other ‘free time’ in class ● When you set this on your desk at the start of class, I will let you know when it is acceptable to listen to music during that class ■ One Free Test Question

    Page 6

● You get to bring your test up to me and I will cross out the question of your choice and then it will not be counted at all in the test ○ Like the homework pass this doesn’t give you full points on the problem it just gets ‘X’ed’ out ● Make sure to staple your Prize Card to the front of the test

Textbook: ● You are responsible to keep your textbook in the same condition that you got it in thus you are required to have your book in a book cover (either paper bag version or a fabric version) ● You must have it covered by the day that you Signed Syllabus and Assignment 1 are due ○ If you do not have it covered by then you will loose one participation point each day until it is covered Hands On Activities: ● Sometimes we will use individual markerboards, protractors, compases, rulers, etc. These are all located in the Seat Sacks ● I have 4 piles of seat pockets that correspond to the rows located in different sections of the room ○ Row 1 - by Algebra/Geometry word walls (closet) ○ Row 2 - by chalkboard with magnetic graph paper ○ Row 3 - on back window sill by the chalkboard with daily updates ○ Row 4 - on top of filing cabinet in back corner ● Each seat pocket corresponds to the number located on your seat ● The last person in each row, when stated will get up, get the seat pockets for their row, grab the pocket corresponding with their seat number then pass the pockets forward. Each student will proceed to grab the seat sack corresponding to their seat number and pass it forward. Entering and Exiting the Classroom ● When you enter class

    Page 7

○ Make sure you have all the necessary materials for the class (if you forget something you will have to borrow it from a fellow student or use your emergency pass to go get it): ■ Pencil or writing utensil (Pencil is REQUIRED for homework) ■ Assignment(s) ■ Textbook ■ Paper (loose-leaf or notebook) ■ Calculator (your phone is NOT a calculator) ■ Chromebook (if stated the day(s) before) ○ Enter quietly - finish all conversations in the hallway prior to coming into the classroom ○ Drop you phone off in your assigned phone slot in the phone cubby ■ The phone slot that you drop it off into corresponds with the seat number located on your desk ○ Go to your assigned seat ○ Look at the board to see if there are any assignments or directions on what you need to be doing ■ If there are no directions, prepare to take notes (writing utensil and notebook), if there is still time before class starts, start working on the assigned homework for the class ● For Dismissal ○ Do NOT pack up early ○ Wait for Miss Kuhfal to dismiss you. The ring of the bell doesn't dismiss you. ○ After you get permission to leave ■ Clean up your area by picking up stray papers, paper frillies, etc. ■ Leave quietly ■ If there is an exit slip required, such as a sticky note response for the board, you must finish this before leaving the classroom ○ If you are going to be late to a class due feel free to ask me for a pink slip or for me to call for your next class

Pencils:

    Page 8

● All work MUST be done in pencil ○ Work that is not done in pencil will not be accepted ● If you need a pencil and don’t have one it costs $0.25 ○ No IOU’s will be given, this is your opportunity to problem solve

Paper ● I will ONLY accept paper that is either perforated, looseleaf, or with the spiral notebook frillies cut off ○ You can cut the frillies off using the safety scissors on the student desk Technology: ● Phones will be put in the phone cubby that corresponds with your desk number - this serves as your attendance (see above) ● Calculators - you can only use the calculator corresponding with your desk number (which is also your phone cubby number) ● Chromebooks will be utilized on review day ● I will notify you if you need to bring your Chromebook with you to class the day before you need to ● Chromebooks should be in your backpack or not accessible unless I have told you to bring them to class Bathroom/Emergency Pass Policy: ● You will get 2 bathroom passes and 1 emergency pass at the start of each semester, these are for the ENTIRE Semester. Use them responsibly (one per quarter maybe?) ● Bathroom/emergency passes are not allowed to be used during tests, quizzes, or pop-quizzes ● To Use the Bathroom/Emergency Pass ○ You will deposit your bathroom/emergency pass into the jar on the student desk (has a bathroom pass taped across it) ○ Take the lanyard bathroom/emergency pass from the door ○ Return it when you get back

    Page 9

● The emergency pass is serves as an opportunity to go to your locker when you forget your book/homework/pencil, go to the office to make a call/other reasons, or for any other ‘emergency’. ○ The emergency pass only allows you to be out of class for approx. 5 minutes ● Your pass is your responsibility, if you lose it it is like you used it, I will NOT give you another ● These bathroom passes are to help prevent distractions and disruptions within the classroom ● You get 1 point of extra credit for all bathroom/emergency passes that you have at the end of each semester

Seating Arrangement ● The seating arrangement will be set on the 3rd full day (Friday, August 19th). ○ The seating arrangement is for the ease of attendance for me and for substitute teachers. ○ I (Miss Kuhfal) hold the right to adjust the seating arrangemnet if you cannot handle where you are currently arranged ● The seating arrangement will be written down, and subs will use this along with the phone cubby for attendance ● The seating arrangement will be enforced for the entire semester. ● The class will vote on if they want to change seats at the end of the semester. Attendance/Participation: ● You will not get points taken away for missing class due to a school event or an excused absence ● The way that participation points will be taken away include (but are not limited too): ○ If you get a detention with me (1 point) or see the principal (2 points) ○ If you do not try to answer questions, do not participate in markerboard review, or if you do not participate in the pretest review ○ If you come in after the bell without teacher/school notification (1 point)

    Page 10

○ If your phone is NOT in your designated cubby (1 point) ○ If you come in after the bell without teacher/school notification (calling or pink slip) (1 point) ● You will start the year with full participation points (10 points per quarter) and they will be removed according to the reasons above

Absent/Late for Class: ● Videos will be posted on the website of the class and you are responsible for watching them and doing the assignment that is posted with it. ○ With the weekly assignments - you shouldn’t have late assignments due to having a week's notice to complete it ○ For situations when you are not available to turn it in yourself, have a friend, sibling turn it in for you, otherwise, email me and we will work something out ○ Daily assignments (Algebra 1) if you miss class you have 1 day to make up the information/assignment missed ● Missing class does not mean you get to miss information. ● You can ask me for notes for the day you are missing if you know you will be gone ahead of time - you can copy them off ● If you come in after the bell without teacher/school notification (calling or pink slip) you will lose 1 participation point ● When you come in late, come in silently, place the pink slip on the markerboard sill, sit down quietly, and start where we are - you can get the information you missed after class/school or on the website Homework: ● You will submit homework in the file folder, on the pink board at the front of the classroom by the door, that corresponds with your class ● Make sure to staple assignments, there is a stapler on the table by the calculators and phone cubby, if it is out of staples ASK me for some ○ If a paper from the packet gets lost it is NOT my responsibility, a good idea might be to put your name and page number on EACH page of your assignment

    Page 11

● Make sure to show your work ○ I care A LOT about how you get to the answer and seeing where mistakes happened, in the process or in calculation. ○ If you show your work I WILL assign partial credit as I see fit ○ On the other hand, if you do NOT show your work I will NOT give partial credit ● Algebra 1 will have daily assignments ○ I will collect the assignments in the file folder at the 8:15 AM bell. Any assignments that you are submitted after I pick up the file folder at 8:15 AM will be counted LATE. ○ Since this the first class of the day this should be NO problem! ○ Mrs. Miller has this same policy and way of collecting homework, so this won’t be something COMPLETELY new, you will have it for her class as well! ● Weekly Assignments will be done by Geometry (on a trial basis) and Pre-Calc. ○ Each class will have a designated day to turn their assignments in, which you will see below: ■ Geometry - Thursday at 3:45 PM (file folder) ● We will try this out for a couple of weeks and see how it goes ● Wednesday you will have the option of choosing 3 questions to ask me from the homework that I will go over in class ● In order to ease into this I will do a check on Tuesday to make sure you have started the assignment. ○ For this check you must have a FULL page of problems completed ○ If you do not have a full page of work to show me at the start of class on Tuesday, you will be required to see me during Study Hall on Tuesday AND Wednesday. I will check daily to make sure that you are getting farther on it.

    Page 12

● I will collect the assignments in the file folder at the 3:45 PM bell on Thursday. Any assignments that you are submitted after I pick up the file folder at 3:45 PM will be counted LATE. ● I will try my hardest to have assignments back to you by Monday ■ Pre-Calculus - 11:59 PM on Monday (Online) ● The first half of the year you will submit them to me via email - This is how some professors do it in college so I want to make sure you have experience in this! ○ Attach a .pdf file of your homework with the file name: ■ Last Name - Homework X (X responds to the number of homework we are on) ○ To get a .pdf file, there are apps on smartphones that you can use, otherwise you can put your photos into a google doc and save it as a pdf, or you can type out all your assignments ■ Feel free to ask me questions regarding this ○ When I get your email, I will respond to it confirming that I received it ○ The email subject line must read: ■ Your Name (First and Last Name), Class (Pre-Calculus), and Homework X (the number of homework you are on) ● We will change the submission of homework for the second half of the year to Google Classroom ○ This will be similar to Blackboard, which you will utilize extensively in college ○ This is a way for you to dip your feet into what college will be like ○ You will see the entire week’s worth of assignments listed on the board

    Page 13

○ Daily I will post the problems that correspond with what we did in class and are a part of the week’s assignments ○ You have the option of doing the homework daily or waiting until the last minute to do it it is your responsibility ■ Geometry is an exception to this - due to the Tuesday check (requiring ONE FULL page of problems completed) ○ Since you have the weeks assignment, you should have NO excuse for not getting homework done (you had the assignment ALL week) ■ No matter the games, or activities going on during the week you have known the assignment ■ Even if you miss class, you should be able to figure out a way to submit it to me ON time, if you have a problem with this contact me ○ The assignments will seem larger, however, they are the same size as if I gave daily problems, just a larger packet to turn in

Pop Quizzes: ● Pre-calculus will have pop-quizzes ● No warning will be given for these quizzes ● The quizzes will be over the information you have learned that week including the information taught the day before ● There will be 6 pop-quizzes throughout the semester (3 per quarter) - the lowest grade will be dropped ● There will be no make up quizzes, even if you are absent Quizzes: ● Given every 3-5 sections ● There will be no review for quizzes ● Cover the material since the last test or quiz ● Announce prior to the quiz (approx. 2 days) ● On quizzes you are allowed to use ONE notecard, front and back

    Page 14

○ Save your note cards (you can ask me for a spiral bound stack of notecards) because if you save them, I will let you use them on the next quiz

Tests: ● End of the chapter ● Day before will serve as a review day ● They cover the material of the entire chapter (even the material the quiz/quizzes covered) ● This is the biggest part of your grade so make sure to study (35%-40% of your entire grade) ● Tests are closed book and closed notes - you can retake them (see below) so this should not stress you out too much Retake Tests: ● I will allow students to retake a test if they come talk to me ● The highest grade you can get on the retake is the median (middle) of the original test grade and a 100%. ○ Examples: ■ 60% original can only turn to 80% max ■ 70% original can only turn to 85% max ■ 80% original can only turn to 90% max ■ 90% original can only turn to 95% max ● I will take the highest of the two tests for the final test grade. ● Retake tests must be scheduled with me during my office hours. ● I will extend the office hours from 45 minutes to 1 hour for the retake. ● Retake tests must be scheduled within a week of me returning your graded test Extra Credit: ● You may earn 5 points of extra credit each quarter ● Some of the extra credit options will be handed out at the start of the semester

    Page 15

○ Each student will get ONE copy and I will NOT hand out another one at ANY point in the semester - it is your RESPONSIBILITY to keep track of it ○ The points for each option is based on the difficulty/time of the project ■ most are worth 1 point ● I may hand out other options throughout the year but as stated above, you will get ONE copy ● You are welcome to suggest other extra credit options to me ○ These options must be presented outside of class time (before, after, during office hours, or via email) ○ I reserve the right to approve, deny, or adapt these options ● Extra credit MUST be turned in at the latest 1 week before the end of the semester ● Extra credit will be submitted in one of two ways ○ Via the Extra Credit slot by where assignments are turned in ○ Via email with the subject line: Extra Credit - Class Name - Option X Your Name ● Extra credit assignments must be titled in a similar way as your papers: ○ Right hand side ■ Name ■ Class and Period ■ Extra Credit Option X (where X stands for the number correlating with the option you are doing)

No-Name Papers: ● Algebra 1 ○ Paper 1 - FREEBIE - you get one no name paper without a penalty ○ Papers 2 and 3 - 50% on the assignment no matter the original grade ○ Papers 4 and 5 - 25% on the assignment no matter the original grade ○ Papers 6+ - 0% on the assignment no matter the original grade ● Geometry ○ Paper 1 - 50% on the assignment no matter the original grade ○ Papers 2 - 25% on the assignment no matter the original grade ○ Paper 3+ - 0% on the assignment no matter the original grade

    Page 16

● Trigonometry ○ 0% on the assignment ● Pre-Calculus ○ 0% on the assignment ○ Make sure the file name includes your last name ○ Include your name on the assignment as well

Late Papers: ● 30% off for the first day late - the highest score you can get is a 70% ● 50% off for 2 days late - the highest score you can get is a 50% ● 100% off for 3 or more late - You will receive a 0% even if you turn it in Paper Title: ● In order to get the full credit on papers you must label your papers outlined below: ○ This information must be located on the top right hand side of the paper ○ Name: First Last Rebekah Kuhfal ○ Class and period: Geometry - Period 2 ○ Assignment Due Date: August 22 ● You are welcome to include the assignment after the due date or across the top or anywhere on the paper, however, it is not required. I personally would include it. ● If papers are not labeled with the above information, 5 points will be deducted from your assignment. (85/90 originally, turns to 80/90) Cheating: ● Do NOT cheat! ● If caught, EVERYONE involved will receive a ZERO with no second chances ● Watch your homework, you are responsible for its safety Communication: ● Communication is KEY!

    Page 17

○ Talk with me in person, I am around, or email me about any questions/concerns you have ● All communication with me is to be professional ● Emails must be addressed professionally (Hello, Hi, or Dear Miss Kuhfal)

Need Help? ● ASK! ● I will always be available during my ‘Office Hours’ unless previously stated ● I am also available during Period 8 (Study Hall) ● Do NOT wait until the last minute for help ● I want you to succeed as much as you want to succeed, thus let's work together to make this year great! If you are curious on the number of absences you have had or no-name papers ASK, I will have a list of it.
