2016 Southern Minnesota Corn and Soybean Weed Management Trials Strategies for Managing Herbicide Resistant Giant Ragweed and Waterhemp Opportunity to View/Evaluate all of the Newest Soybean Herbicide Technologies at One Location Technology systems include: Liberty Link, Xtend/Engenia, Enlist Duo, HPPD and Glyphosate Discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of each technology. What would be the best systems? What will those labels tell us about nozzles, set backs, rinsing and cleaning spray tanks. What’s the status of export approval?

The Crop Management Tour will provide research-based information for crop producers, crop consultants, agribusiness staff, farm managers, government agency personnel and anyone involved in agricultural crop production. The tour will begin at 9 a.m. as one group discussing and viewing new technologies in weed management. Wagons will then depart for other tour stops. Field trials are signed, and visitors are welcome to view trials not discussed during the tour. Visitors are also invited to return and view trials on a later date to monitor changes. In case of inclement weather, the program will be moved indoors to the Heintz Center, room HB117. There is no charge for attending this event. DIRECTIONS TO UNIVERSITY CENTER, ROCHESTER: Field plots are located directly east of University Center, 851 30th Avenue SE, Rochester, at the intersection of Hwy. 14 and Co. Rd. 22 (E. Circle Drive).

Trial Highlights:

Xtend Time of Application – a) Importance of the Pre Herbicide – what it brings to the table, b) Does weed size matter? Applications to 3, 6, and 9 inch weeds, c) Weakness of the PGRs on waterhemp Waterhemp Management Strategies – Layering residual herbicides, preemergence followed by postemergence systems (how many applications are needed to get the job done?). What about cultivation and its contribution to weed control and other soil benefits? Demonstrations on Sites of Action – What weeds does each component control? Are you really rotating effective sites of actions? What is the value of stacking redundant effective herbicides in resistant weed management? See What’s New in Weed Management – View how these products and systems are working on giant ragweed, common lambsquarters and common waterhemp.
