KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION Below are the dates each elementary school will hold Kindergarten registration for the 2016-17 school year. Branchville – Monday, February 22 Barlow Mountain – Monday, February 29 Farmingville – Tuesday, February 23 Ridgebury – Wednesday, February 24 Scotland – Thursday, February 25 Veterans Park – Friday, February 26 These dates are for parents only. Parents will be introduced to some members of the school staff, registration forms will be reviewed and important information will be distributed. ELIGIBILITY All children who reach the age of five (5) on or before January 1, 2017 are eligible for enrollment. Under Connecticut State Statutes, the mandatory age for children to start school is five. Any parent who chooses to exempt his/her child from kindergarten must meet with the local school principal to complete exemption papers. The Connecticut State Department of Health requires proof of immunizations and a complete physical examination within one year of entry. Please bring copies of your child’s immunizations records to registration. The school nurse will review the immunization records you provide and hand you a copy of the State of Connecticut Health Assessment Record to be completed by your healthcare provider. WHAT TO BRING Completed Ridgefield Public Schools Registration Form (found here and on RPS website). Child's original birth certificate (with raised seal), or unexpired passport. Parent photo ID. Proof of residency (warranty deed, mortgage statement, tax bill, or lease and two utility bills). Proof of immunizations with specific dates (month/day/year) for polio (IPV or OPV), measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Haemophilus influenza type b (HIB), Hepatitis B and diphtheria, tetanus & pertussis (DTaP), chicken pox (Varivax), Hepatitis A, and pneumococcal signed and stamped by your physician. Please provide any other pertinent health information on the Student Medical History form. During kindergarten orientation in May, parents will have an opportunity to listen to a presentation about kindergarten. Either on the registration date or during the orientation, there will be an opportunity to sign-up your child for the Mini-Kindergarten Program taking place from May 23 to May 26. Each child will attend on a specific day for one-hour with other prekindergarten students. At Barlow Mountain, Farmingville and Ridgebury Elementary Schools, the orientation and Mini-Kindergarten Program take place on the same day. Elementary principals will send information packets to parents known to have prospective kindergartners. Parents of kindergarten-age children who have not received a packet should telephone their school to obtain information and arrange a registration appointment as soon as possible. DTaP vaccine is not given on or after the 7 birthday and may be given for all doses in the primary series. Tdap can be given in lieu of Td vaccine for children 7 years and older unless contraindicated. Tdap is only licensed for one dose. Hib is not required for children 5 years of age or older. Second MMR for school year 2016-2017 applies to all students in grades K-12. Lab confirmation of immunity is only acceptable for Hep A, Hep B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella. New Entrant Definition: *New entrants are any students who are new to the school district, including all preschoolers and all students coming in from Connecticut private, parochial and charter schools located in the same or another community. All pre-schoolers, as well as all students entering kindergarten, including those repeating kindergarten, and those moving from any public or private pre-school program, even in the same school district, are considered new entrants. The one exception is students returning from private approved special education placements–they are not considered new entrants.
