Rick was well known and loved by many, at the Toledo Weak Signals Club, many members had special connection with Rick over the Years. He will truly be missed. In the short time that I have known Rick which pales in comparison to the people who have known him for over 40 years in some cases. But I liked Rick, he always made me laugh, and just like many others I will miss him. Please keep Rick’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time.

I’m sure everyone has fond memories of Rick. I know I do. He was always willing to help me out if I asked and I appreciated him not saying anything when I didn’t. And I accually enjoyed letting him reminis of RC back in the day. I’ll miss him. Tom Contest Director

Sailplane League Greetings to all Weak Signal's members! Please sign up for the Monday Night Sailplane League. Dale Rupert and I will be hosting the Sailplane League again this summer. I think the four team concept worked out last year by allowing you to take a Monday night off occasionally. If you have any interest in flying sailplanes and want to learn, please consider signing up. We have a whole lot of talent and experience out there on any given Monday night and all are very willing to help you learn and improve your flying skills. Please sign up by contacting myself or Dale Rupert via email or at the next two club meetings in May. After the last meeting in May, we will draw names for the teams. The first Monday night will be June 5th. Dale's email is
[email protected], or my email
[email protected]. If you have a cell phone that can text, and would like to be informed of cancellations (to save you a trip to the field) please provide the number to me or Dale. When did Monday Night Sailplane League start? So please consider signing up, it's all for fun and learning! (Pictures are from 2003!) Tom Como
Club History
R/C Homewreckers, Part 56
In the fall of 1980, the club was meeting at the UAW Hall and was prepping for our annual club banquet. The minutes indicate this year’s event was the largest attended ever in our history which was held at Bermans and included seafood and other yummy foodstuff. Since it was late in the year, contests and other activities were being finalized for the season but preparations for the spring and a new flying season were being addressed. It was announce the Nats would be held in San Antonio for those attending and our annual Challenge Cup would probably be a Delta Dart contest possibly held in February. More on this at a later date as the activities meeting talk was hosted by Rick Lederman with one of his favorite subjects, servo repair, in which a dramatic moment usually occurs during Rick’s talk where he indicates sometimes nothing can be accomplished to repair a faulty servo and for effect, Rick usually pulls out a large hammer and smashes the servo to pieces on the table in front of him so true to tradition, Rick performed this action again except he didn’t realize he had a cheap table in front of him and his servo hit went straight through the table leaving a nice round hole about 21/2 inches in diameter!! Wham!! Best servo speech Rick ever made!! It was announced the results of the final agreement between us and our neighbor were sent to Federal Court for an approving signature of this court resulting in no more Non-Holiday Monday flying of sound producing aircraft and that conflict is now behind us. Member and Newsletter editor Dale Adams is leaving the Toledo area at the end of the year so Dan Hall agreed to take on the newsletter duties. January 1981 and the club is still meeting at the UAW Hall, Daly MacGrayne is President and the club is prepping for the 27th R/C Expo to be held at the Sports Arena, April 10-11-12. The club discussed which holidays we would consider as those where we might fly sound producing aircraft so we could notify our neighbors and the list was fairly short as we selected Memorial Day, New Years Day, Christmas, Independence and Labor Day. 5 days which everyone thought was a very short list. At least everyone on our side of Yetter Drain. The Challenge Cup date was announced as February 18 at the Sports Arena and Delta Darts were available for all interested. There were a long list of modifying “don’ts” indicated as the contest management wanted stock Darts flown however again, good luck there as it’s amazing what kind of time can be added to a flight with a little tweak here and a tweak there. Sanding props for RPM gain, hot breath on an elevator for adding a little up-sweep. Some of these guys are masters in the Delta Dart Arena and it showed in their flights. There was one area where contest management held control and that was motors. You had to use supplied rubber which meant all that fancy Pirelli you were hoarding wasn’t legal for use and oh, the moans and groans from these guys when told. Hee-Hee kinda funny as it was like a baby being denied their favorite sucker. Waaaa, Waaaa I want my Pirelli….Anyway, the contest was a pretty good success as attending were 35 Signals and 27 Tigers for a total of 62 and the Signals were declared overall winners with Dan Gordon having the longest flight plus overall longest total time. The Expo for 1981 was held and everyone had nothing but the best to say concerning our effort. This is a little routine as the membership has been involved with certain duties for quite some time and most have developed a workable method to getting their particular job accomplished with a minimum of effort and heart-ache so we are able to run smoothly. In other words, the members are getting good and it shows. Everyone says we do a great job and we do as we have the experience. Simple as that. Nuff bragging for now……………….Course none of this happens without class people running things and we are blessed with ton of that. CU you again next month………Wyane Yeager
