Club History by Wyane Yeager

R/C Homewreckers, Part 57

In early 81, Daly MacGrayne is Pres and Kenny Miller recorded meeting minutes so we have these archives where I see where the local Air National Guard held an open house at their facility and sent us a letter of appreciation for loaning them our PA system to use at their event. Now I find this somewhat amusing and astounding. Wow!! Us, a little old model airplane club loaning a big huge Government facility with really big and fast airplanes, our electronic equipment for the success of their tax paid survival. That just impresses the heck out a me!! Actually I really know why but I bet it sounds better to someone who doesn’t. We loaned the Air National Guard our PA system???? Wow. How did they ever hear about us and how did they even know we had one?? OK, Enough……….. New rules are part of growing and in the spring of 81 we had a few but they all were rules we could live with as they were important to our getting along with our neighbors. No flying south of Yetter Drain, Tuesdays and Thursdays between noon and 6:30 pm are the only days a Quarter Midget or Form 1 can be flown, and only one at a time, no engine allowed to be broke in without a muffler, stuff like that. Letter from the Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce stating our show is the biggest event in the area so all that good PR for us. If it appears I’m looking for something good to write about in here you’re correct as the chronicles don’t really contain much in the way of excitement right now but we’ll keep searching. It’s something special for this writer at this moment and on a monthly basis as I read all these old minutes and my mind races back to when it happened especially if I was around and involved so some of it seems like yesterday when we all had black or brown hair or blond maybe. Not gray though so times were different. Put all that together with a vivid imagination and it’s not too hard to go back 35-36 years. Some of it I remember like yesterday. Yetter Drain, the Yetter Drain…ah yes the Yetter Drain. We all learned the name of that bloody ditch didn’t we?? It should have been called “Damnable Drain”! Oh well it was our southern boundary. We just hated flying north of it! (Spoiled brats) In late July, Daly announced the names of those running for elected office in August and there was a nice number of people trying to be involved in some way. I’ve seen clubs where the Pres ends up being whomever is willing to take on the job but I’ve never been able to say that about the Weak Signals as there’s always a goodly number of people running for elected office and this election is no different. There are 3 running for President, 2 running for Membership Secretary, and 4 running for Trustee. There was only 1 running for Treasurer but that was by design. On August 13, 1981 the club selected their new officers for the year and they were Bob Hisey-President, Jack VanHee-VP, George Richardson-Membership Sec. Ted Ingersol-Recording Sec. Bob KniselyTreasurer, Rick Lederman and John Wolff-Trustees.

Ed Grabbenstetter, Roxanne Grabbenstetter & Dave Ware

Hisey indicating how really tall the Show Queen was.

Hisey shoehorned into a full sized pylon racer the “Real Sporty”.

Proposed Bylaw Change Paul Fillmore submitted the following bylaw addition for the clubs consideration. Voting on this bylaw will take place at least 30 days after the posting of this newsletter.

Weak Signals purposed By Law addition Section XI general field rules. As there is no by law to limit the noise produced by model airplanes at the weak signals field. I think we should conform to the AMA guide lines for there sound / noise abatement recommendations. The by law addition will read as follows: No aircraft shall be flown if it exceeds 96db at 20ft over grass and 98db over pavement. The sound will be measured at all 4 corners of the aircraft Thru full throttle range. if the aircraft does not meet the 96 or 98 db limit at any point during testing the said aircraft is not allowed to fly until it can pass the 96 or 98 db limit. Any member can request to be shown that any airplane is with in the db limit at any time.

A db meter can be purchased for under 50.00 dollars.
