FINE ARTS – COMMUNICATIONS JOURNALISM - 1530 10,11,12
1 credit
Journalism is an introductory course designed to provide students an opportunity to learn the basic elements of journalistic writing as well as develop video camera & editing techniques appropriate for amateur broadcasts. In this class, students can develop the style of writing used to report news stories in newspapers, video broadcasts, on radio and on the internet. This class operates as a news team. The skills students learn in this class come to fruition in the form of three primary products: publishing a monthly high school newspaper; producing live streaming and archived video content of Horizon High School events on a nationwide high school broadcast program; and an annual publication of a high quality journal showcasing 2-D artwork created by Horizon High School students. In addition to creating these products, throughout this year long course students can explore the history of Journalism and examine the responsibilities, ethics, and laws of both professional and amateur journalists.
