Who We Are Kids Klub operates through the College Station ISD Community Education Department. This program is designed to offer quality recreational based after-school care for K-6th school age children. Our staff is composed of high energy college students who desire to foster positive relationships and provide a unique after school experience for the children enrolled in the program.

Our Goals 1. Promote physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of the children who are involved in the program. 2. Provide experiences that contribute to the growth and development of healthy, intelligent, and productive members of society. 3. Support and strengthen the family unit through special activities and open communication between students, staff, and parents. 4. Provide an atmosphere where children can develop a sense of independence and learn about responsible self care.

Our History The Kids Klub began in 1987. It was after the tragic abduction and murder of 9 1/2 year old Kandy Kirtland, a latch key child in Bryan, that the founders decided something must be done. The program was designed as a joint venture of the City of College Station - Parks and Recreation Department and the College Station Independent School District- Community Education Department with the philosophy that the unique partnership would foster one of the best recreational based after school programs in the nation. In June 2014, the program transitioned from a City of College Station and College Station ISD joint venture to the school district having the honor of fully directing and managing the program through the Community Education Office. The program has grown from approximately 365 children and operating in four elementary campuses in 1987 to over 1,300 children and operating in eight elementary and two intermediate school campuses today.

Page 2

The Kids Klub Program To enhance each student’s experience, Kids Klub participants are grouped according to grade: JR Club - K-1st grade, SR Club - 2nd 4th grade, Intermediate - 5th –6th grade. Each afternoon, attendance is taken to make sure that every child is checked-in and safely accounted. After attendance has been completed the children have the opportunity to eat snack, work on homework and participate in vigorous structured play in the gym, outdoor play or organized games and activities in the cafeteria and other common areas. Once a week, we provide the opportunity for children to explore specific interests. Club Day (Wednesdays) is designed for small group interaction with an emphasis on one particular theme or subject area. Each six weeks, students will have the opportunity to participate in a club of their choosing. Some past examples include: Discovery Earth, Engineering, Theatre, Dance, Football, Road Trip USA, Scrapbooking and Heart Healthy. Please visit our website to view the daily schedule, activities, & clubs planned at each campus.

Kids Klub Staff The Kids Klub staff members are carefully selected from a variety of applicants. Staff members possess qualities that contribute to the positive development of the children in their care. Each Kids Klub site is managed by a supervisor and assistant supervisor who have experience working with children. We maintain an adequate staff to child ratio to ensure the quality of your child’s care. This allows us to have excellent supervision as well as an opportunity for our staff to build meaningful relationships with your child.

Participant Behavior Expectations Each Kids Klub site is considered to be a large, caring family. Like any family, there are rules and expectations that must be followed to ensure the rights of others are respected. Should it become necessary to correct a student, the staff will do so in accordance with the Kids Klub discipline management plan. By observing the following rules and expectations, we will practice: -Respecting ourselves, others, the school, and the staff. 1. I will respect myself and others -Listening and acting in a safe manner. 2. I will follow directions -Using appropriate ways to gain attention 3. I will seek attention appropriately -Safety and appropriate physical interaction. 4. I will keep my hands and feet to myself -Safety and respect for each other’s physical space. 5. I will stay in my personal space *Verbal and/ or physical abuse of any staff member by students or parents can result in immediate dismissal.

Kids Klub Discipline Management Plan At Kids Klub, two main forms of redirection are used: 1. Time out—during this time, a child will be asked to consider alternative actions that would have been more appropriate than the action the child chose 2. Natural & Logical consequences—these are consequences that are used within reason and in relation to an incorrect choice on the child’s part. Examples: practicing appropriate behavior, loss of privileges, apology letter, student/parent phone call. Occasional misbehavior is expected; however, excessive or extreme misbehavior (i.e. fighting, inappropriate language, disrespect to staff, other students or school facilities, etc) may result in one or all of the following:  Written documentation  Parent conference with staff and/or Program Leadership  Develop Student Behavior Plan  Suspension (length TBD)  Removal from program Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Policy “The Nonviolent Crisis Intervention program is a safe, non-harmful behavior management system designed to help human service professionals provide for the best possible Care, Welfare, Safety and Security of disruptive, assaultive and out-of-control individuals.” ~ Crisis Prevention Institute, Inc.  Kids Klub staff are certified annually in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.  It is the policy of Kids Klub to use Crisis Intervention Restraint Protocol when the child has become a danger to themselves or others.  If Crisis Intervention Restraint Protocol must be implemented with a Kids Klub participant on more than three occasions, the student’s participation in Kids Klub will be reviewed Program Director reserve the right to alter and/or modify from the policy as appropriate.
