Some Thoughts on Our Tuition The Saint Francis Xavier School Board works hard to keep our tuition as reasonable as possible. We recognize and appreciate the sacrifice our parents make to enable their children to attend our school. Thanks to the efforts of the School Board and the generosity of teachers, parents, benefactors, and volunteers, we have been able to keep our tuition one of the lowest in this area. Please note that all our tuition rates are subsidized, as none of them covers the full cost per student which is approximately $7,000. The budget at Saint Francis is our statement of faith. We are confident that if we strive to do God’s will, He will bless our efforts. We exist first and foremost because we believe in Jesus Christ, and seek to be engaged in His teaching mission. In light of that, part of our mission is to ensure that our school is as affordable and accessible to as many families as possible.

What isn’t reflected in our budget is the countless hours of volunteer time given by so many. While we require a minimum of 15 hours of service per family annually, most of our families give far more than that. We are grateful for their efforts and the efforts of our faculty, staff, friends and benefactors, who also give so much. There is plenty to do, and many hands make light work. God has indeed been good to us, and so too have all those who make up this school community.

FINANCIAL AID We make every effort to ensure that cost is not a factor in keeping a child from coming to school here. To quote our pastor, we must always be a school where “a poor carpenter’s son could receive a Catholic education.” We strive to remain affordable for everyone.

To be sure, there are almost as many different aid circumstances as there are families. We have worked to develop a process where everyone is treated fairly, with dignity and respect. There are some guiding principles we use to consider financial aid.

1. Financial aid is a partnership between the family and the school. 2. Since the parish provides such a significant subsidy, priority will be given first to members of SFX parish who need financial aid. 3. Since area parishes help subsidize some educational costs, next priority will be given to Catholics in other parishes who need financial aid. 4. We consider financial aid for families of other faiths based upon the realities of a given budget year. We have been able to help many receive financial aid throughout the years. 5. Those who have received aid in previous years are asked to pay more in the current year than they did in the previous year. 6. All recipients are asked to remember the generosity of the financial aid award if their financial situation changes. Every penny of money we receive enables us to help other families. We also ask that those receiving financial aid consider providing additional community service time.

We endeavor to make the process as confidential as possible. We use FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment to help coordinate the process and provide us with recommendations. The financial aid decision is ultimately made by the pastor, the chair of the Finance Committee, and the principal. The tuition aid request form is kept in strict confidence.

REFUND POLICY Many of the school's expenses are incurred on an annual basis and the school is obliged to meet those costs. Any refund of tuition is based on the full amount of tuition due for the year. If a family is paying through FACTS and is not entitled to a refund, the FACTS payments must continue through the remainder of the year, or a payment covering the remaining tuition due must be made. A refund of tuition paid, minus the deposit, will be made on the following basis:

If the family of the student who is withdrawing has an outstanding balance with the school for any amounts other than tuition, e.g. after school program payments, lunch fees, fees for lost textbooks or library books, etc., those amounts will also be deducted from any refund.

Note: The above refund amounts apply whether a student withdraws voluntarily or is asked to leave for academic or disciplinary reasons. There is no refund of registration fee or deposit. All refunds are subject to administrative discretion.
