Rebel Fire – August 11, 2017 Location: McKenzie River Ranger District, Three Sisters Wilderness, Rebel Creek drainage Start Date: August 4, 2017 Size: 700 acres (change based on Infra-red flight) Containment: 5% Cause: Under investigation Vegetation: Dense mixed conifer forest. Incident Commander: Ricky Cox Resources: 5 crews, 2 falling teams, 8 engines, 1 water tender, 1 helicopter, and other fire personnel with a total of 161. Closed Roads: Firefighters continue their fire preparation work along Aufderheide Scenic Byway Forest Service Road 19 (FSR19). This work involves falling dead standing trees, removing lower tree branches, small trees and underbrush. Due to the Rebel Fire location, potential growth and resistance to control, FSR 19 will be closed just south of the Delta Campground entrance road and just north of the junction of FSR19 and FSR1944 near North Fork trailhead. The road closure points will be staffed with road guards to prevent access. The Delta Campground and Bruckart Boat launch facilities currently remain open for public use. Smoke will continue to be most noticeable in the evening till morning, as smoke will pool back down in canyons, drainages, and basins. Smoke can irritate your respiratory system, intensify chronic heart and lung problems. If you are having health effects from smoke exposure, stay inside or get to an area with better air quality.
