February, 2017

Dear NHS Junior Students/Parents/Guardians: On April 11, 12, and 13, our juniors will be taking the Michigan Merit Exam (MME). The first portion of the MME on April 11 (Tuesday) includes the SAT (college entrance exam) and the SAT essay. Juniors will report at 7:20 a.m. for SAT testing and conclude at approximately 12:30 p.m. Juniors are encouraged to drive or get a ride on April 11 as there will only be morning bussing available. On Wednesday, April 12 of the MME (the second day of testing) the students will take the ACT WorkKeys portion of the exam. This consists of three workforce readiness exams. NHS juniors will report for testing at 7:20 a.m. on April 12 (Wednesday) and finish at approximately 10:15 a.m. On Thursday, April 13 of the MME (the third and last day of testing) the students will take the M-Step (Michigan’s Student Tests of Educational Progress) online Science and Social Studies tests. NHS juniors will report for testing at 7:20 a.m. on April 13 (Thursday) and finish at approximately 9:45 a.m. A detailed schedule is provided. On Tuesday (April 11), all juniors have permission to drive and park at school; and please note bus service will only be available in the morning. In addition, students are able to go home after testing is complete on April 11. Lunch will not be provided on this day. On Wednesday (April 12) and Thursday (April 13), only juniors with parking permits have permission to park at school. Bus service will only be available at the end of the school day. Please contact the Main Office if your student has difficulty finding transportation on any of the testing days. On April 12 and April 13, juniors will be able to pre-order lunch (information will be provided soon) here at NHS or may leave campus for lunch as long as they return in time for classes at 11:20 a.m. Freshman, sophomores, and seniors will join the juniors for the remainder of the day on April 12 and April 13 with an adjusted class schedule. Please see the schedule provided. Note that 1B and 2B classes will meet on April 12 and 3B and 4B classes will meet on April 13. NHS has established our 2017 state testing schedule for the MME trying to maximize classroom time and minimize disruptions for all students while allowing our juniors the best possible testing environment. NHS is very pleased that the state has drastically reduced the testing hours and testing days as compared to two year ago. Parents, as students and staff at NHS are getting prepared for the Michigan Merit Exam, please discuss with your son/daughter the importance of the MME (some discussion points are provided). It is critical that all NHS juniors test on all three days of the MME and do their very best. Participation rates and achievement results on the MME are very important to NHS and our School District. And a reminder…the focus of the MME is our students and to help better prepare them for college and/or employment in the 21st Century. If you have any questions about the MME testing or schedule, please contact Counselor Lisa Sadikot at 248-344-3813, Assistant Principal Melissa Provo at 248-344-3816, or Principal Tony Koski at 248-344-3824. Sincerely,

Tony Koski Tony Koski, NHS Principal
