Saturday 25th March to Sunday 26th March 2017 The Organising Authority is Geographe Bay Yacht Club (GBYC) in conjunction with the Western Australian Sharpie Sailing Association.

NOTICE OF RACE 1

RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2017-2020. 1.2 The special regulations of Australia Sailing (AS) will apply. Attention is drawn Part 2, 1.02 (person in charge) and 5.01 (life jackets) 1.3 Racing rule 42.2 is changed in accordance with the Class Association By-Laws, Part B, Clause 20(1) to allow “On a free leg of the course when surfing (rapidly accelerating down the leeward side of a wave) or planing is possible, the Yacht’s crew may, in order to initiate surfing or planing, pump the sheet, boom or guy, controlling any sail a maximum of three (3) times for each wave or gust of wind.” 1.4 The Sailing Instructions. When there is conflict between the NoR and the S.I. the rules of the Sailing Instructions shall prevail.

ADVERTISING/BOW NUMBERS 2.1 Competitor advertising will be in accordance with ISAF Regulation 20. 2.2 The organising authority reserves the right to refuse advertising by a boat or competitor that is in conflict with an event sponsor of the laws of the Western Australian or Australian Governments. 2.3 Boats may be required to display advertising and/or bow numbers chosen and supplied by the organising authority.

ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 3.1 The regatta is open to all boats of the Australian Sharpie Class. 3.2 Competitors shall be current members of their National Authority through an affiliated sailing or yacht club and a member of State Division of the Australian Sharpie Sailing Association. 3.3 Eligible boats may enter by using the on-line entry process on www.washarpies.com.au. Entries and fees must be received prior to 11th March 2017.

Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the organising authority and may be subject to payment of a “late entry fee” (refer to “Fees” below).

6 Championship races are scheduled. Refer 11.2 No warning signal will be made after 1600 on Sunday 26th March. The Sharpie Association is sharing the course/water space and venue facilities with the Cherub Association. The Cherubs will start approx. 5 minutes after the Sharpies for each race.

MEASUREMENTS 6.1 Each boat shall hold a current and valid measurement certificate that shall be provided at the request of the organising authority. 6.2 Any boat may be inspected by an organising authority appointed measurer at any time to ensure compliance with the class rules. Boats notified of measurement inspections shall follow the instructions of the race committee.

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 7.1 The sailing instructions will be available at registration or may be available prior to the event on the event website www.washarpies.com.au. 7.2 A competitors meeting will take place at the GBYC on the 25th March 2017 at 11am

THE COURSES 9.1 The courses to be sailed will be of windward/leeward as described in the sailing instructions.

PENALTY SYSTEM 10.1 A boat may take a one turn penalty (one tack and one gybe in the same direction) when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2 in an incident while racing. This changes RRS 44.1

SCORING 11.1 The Low Point scoring system of RRS Appendix A shall apply. 11.2 Six races are scheduled, of which four races shall be completed to constitute a series. If more than four races are completed a competitor’s worst race score shall be discarded, but if only four races are completed, scores from all races shall count.

SUPPORT BOATS 12.1 Team manager, coach and other support boats shall be registered with the organising authority and shall comply with the regatta “Support Boat Regulations” that will be available at registration or may be available prior to the event on the event web-site www.washarpies.com.au

RADIO COMMUNICATION 13.1 Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

RIGHTS TO USE NAME AND LIKENESS 14.1 In participating this event, a competitor grants to the organising authority and the sponsors of the vent, the right in perpetuity, to make, use and show, from time to time and at their discretion, any motion pictures, still pictures and live, taped or film television and other reproductions of him/her during the period of the competition of the said event in which the competitor participates and in all material related to the said event without compensation.

INSURANCE Each participating boat shall be insured for the period of the regatta with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of AUD 10,000,000 per incident or the equivalent. Evidence of insurance shall be produced at the request of the organising authority.

AMENDMENTS TO NOTICE OF RACE Any amendment to the notice of race will be posted on the event web-site www.washarpies.com.au and/or posted on the Notice Board at GBYC no later than two hours before each days scheduled racing.
