President’s Letter

Fellow and future Somerset-Olde Creek Recreation Club Members, With all the warm weather this winter, I am sure you are already getting ready to sit poolside with the rest of your Somerset-Olde Creek neighbors. Summer is approaching quickly and we are already planning for a great summer of fun socials, exciting swim meets, and, of course, plenty of relaxing at poolside. This year we are looking forward to continuing our trend of new and exciting social events. Last year’s Cardboard Boat Regatta and SOCtoberfest are just a couple examples of the fantastic events envisioned and organized by our own SOC volunteers. This summer promises just as much fun with our neighbors and friends. After another extremely successful season, the SOC Stingrays swim team is gearing up for another season of great competition, exciting team events, and a focus on developing all of our swimmers. Our extremely successful minis program will continue offering one on one lessons taught by older members of the team with an eye on transitioning new swimmers into confident racers ready for their first swim meet. And, after another successful year, we will again offer free group swim lessons for the children of our new members. If you are new to the SOC community, let me personally invite you to come on down to the pool to see for yourself. I personally believe that the greatest asset our recreation club offers is its community: we all contribute to make SOC a relaxed, family-friendly, neighborhood gathering place. Please come down and enjoy summer with us at SOC! I am looking forward to seeing you at poolside this summer! We offer a positive, safe environment that leads to lifelong friendships, building confidence, and the chance to advance individual swimming skills. Swimmers ages 4-18 of all skill levels are welcome. Swimmers must be able to swim a length of the pool unassisted to join. We also offer a minis program for those who can’t swim a length. Not to mention 10+ Swim Meets, Friday Night Potlucks, a Trip to Kings Dominion, a Pancake Breakfast, and an Awards Banquet!

Children between ages 8 and 12 who have passed the SOC swim test may swim alone if authorized by both the pool manager and their parent.
