Redesign - What have we done so far ●

The information and questions here are from 3 meetings with Brigid, Ray and Michelle - This is only the start of the process, no decisions have been made.

This preliminary information identifies three options explored thus far and estimated costs.

This information is preliminary, there is much, much more information to be obtained, shared and discussed, see questions.

This is a draft using preliminary assumptions Three options will be presented. Please know it is recognized there is a lot more work to do: ● ● ● ● ●

See listing of questions PK student projections and classrooms needed in each school requires more work given Act 166 and upcoming legislative changes. Much more evaluation of staffing for non-core (guidance, library, etc) and specials staffing needs to be conducted Student enrollment projections are preliminary and for 2020 only, need to be reviewed and expanded for 5+ years Can’t overly emphasize there is much more work to do this is preliminary look at possible options.

Three Initial Options to be presented These three options are being presented as initial ideas because they: 1.

Will provide robust, high quality sustainable innovative programs for all students in grades PK to 12 and

2.

Will provide the greatest level of equity and equal opportunity for all students at each grade level. and

3.

Are likely to achieve the highest level of sustainable cost savings and

4.

Holistically meet needs of students PK through 12 in all towns

Options Identified with preliminary information and questions (in no particular order) Option I - See Handout Fayston Elementary & Moretown Elementary are no longer operational schools. Waitsfield Elementary, Warren Elementary and Thatcher Brook serve grades PK to 4. Crossett Brook serves all students in grades 5-6. Harwood Union serves all students grades 7-12 and operates a pre-voc from grades 7-10. ●

The preliminary assumption used to project student enrollment is that 50% students from Fayston go to Warren and 50% to Waitsfield. The preliminary assumption used for student enrollment is that 50% students from Moretown go to Thatcher Brook and 50% to Waitsfield.

Preliminary Savings and Information on Example Debt Costs

Proposal to develop cost estimates for facility renovations: ●

We have asked architectural firm, Truex Cullins, to restart the Harwood facility study and to develop macro estimated facility renovation costs for the redesign options presented. Truex Cullins will present to the HUUSD Board in March. The cost of the proposal from Truex Cullins for this work is $28,600. The current balance from the $130,000 Act 46 grant received available is $90,365.
