Camp Goals

Camps with Character!

Our Staff

Caring Be kind and show concern for others. Express thanks. Forgive others. Help people in need. Be compassionate.

Our goal is to provide a safe, wholesome environment for campers to gain experiences that help them learn, grow, and thrive. We strive to help each camper develop core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith. The YMCA of the Chesapeake interviews and selects the most qualified and experienced men and women in our community. Our staff members are selected based on their maturity, skills, patience, enthusiasm, and desire to be good role models for children. Each staff goes through training and attends training that concentrates on safety, group dynamics, character development and more. Interested in working at YMCA Camp Monoponson? Apply online at www.ymcachesapeake.org.

Schedules

Looking to see what campers will be doing from day to day? Your daily camp schedule will be available the Thursday prior to camp. Schedules may very or change based on inclement weather or field trips.

Safety

In all activities, safety and approved instructional methods are paramount. Activities are closely supervised and adhere to program standards from the YMCA of the USA and the Maryland Department of Health. Camper safety continues to be our number one priority.

Character building and practicing of Christian principles are at the soul of YMCA Day Camp. Campers will learn:

Honesty Don’t cheat, steal, or deceive. Keep your promises. Be reliable. Have the courage to do the right thing. Be loyal to family, friends, and country. Respect Live by the Golden Rule. Value the abilities and characteristics of others. Use good manners. Be considerate of the feelings of others. Be courteous and polite. Responsibility Finish what you start. Always do your best. Exercise self-control. Be accountable for your choices. Faith Think about the values and principles by which you want to live. Bullying Policy At the YMCA of the Chesapeake, bullying is inexcusable, and we have a firm policy against all types of bullying. In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive and include: • An Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their power – such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity – to control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people. • Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. Our Camp philosophy is based on our desire to ensure that every camper has the opportunity to build skills, confidence, and character at camp – as well as a lifetime of memories. We work together as a team to ensure that camp is where the magic happens – when caring staff and exuberant youth spend a week, a month or a summer together. See the parent packet for more information on our anti-bullying policy.
