First Reading: Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-7 Human beings were formed with great care, to be in relationship with the creator, creation, and one another. The serpent’s promise to the first couple that their eyes would be opened led, ironically, to the discovery only that they were naked. Second Reading: Romans 5:12-19 Through Adam’s disobedience, humanity came under bondage to sin and death, from which we cannot free ourselves. In Christ’s obedient death, God graciously showers on us the free gift of liberation and life. GOSPEL: Matthew 4:1-11 Jesus experiences anew the temptations that Israel faced in the wilderness. As the Son of God, he endures the testing of the evil one. We Remember in Prayer; Our members: Roy & Jean Afton, Bert Anderson, Steve Bjork, Jillian Foxworthy, Patricia Hadjibabaie, Valerie House, Nancy Humphreys, Julie Johnson, Nancy Johnson, Brenda May, Bob Nelsen, John “Gus” Newberg, Donna Roberts, Dick Shangle, Jodi Stream, Jayme Surdam, Fred Thorne, and Marilyn Wiley, and our family & friends: *Conner Bannen, *Jennifer Bellamy, *Richard Canter, *Betty Castenholz, *Keith England, *George Gallas, *Connie Hochreiter, *Russ Jewett, *Pat Jazwinski, *Ruth Kamphuis, *Doris Kass, *Helen Klinkner, *Alvin Kober, *Cheryl Leatherwood, *Mitch Lucas, *Joy Matthews, *Stacey Matthews, *Dave Merkle, *Wilma Moderow, *Doug Pinckney, *Hannah Pohlman, *Ron Reister, *Brison Ricker, *Preston Ricker, *Richard Schnepp, *Liz Sears, *Kyle Sheuneman, *Edward Smith, *Debby Tramper, *Carla VanAsselt, and *Dave & Carol VanVelsen. Announcements: In the midst of winter’s chill, as we grow impatient for spring, fill us with your warmth and new life, dear Lord. With the use of the screens and purchase of new hymnals, we will be disposing of the majority of the green LBW hymnals and the red “Other Song Book”. Many of these books were given in memory of or dedicated to family members. Books will be available in Centennial Hall from February 19 through March 5, 2017, for anyone who would like to take a copy/copies as a keepsake. Any books left after March 5 will be recycled. New Red Hymnals Ready--While most of us have adjusted to following the worship service using the power point projection on the overhead screens, some still prefer to follow along with a real hymnal. With the old green hymnals having been retired from service, we are grateful to Dolores Nyblad for her gift of 25 copies of the newer- version Red Hymnal. The new hymnals are on a rack just inside the doors to the sanctuary. If you'd like the use of one of them during the service, please feel free to pick one up on the way in. Kindly return it to the rack when leaving. Thanks, Dolores, for your generous gift to the congregation. Fellowship with one another after worship before we are sent out to take on the world and share the Good News is important. Take a few minutes after the service to greet one another over coffee and cookies. Following the Praise Service, fellowship is held right there in the Gathering Area at the rear of the sanctuary. Following the Traditional Service, we gather in the Fellowship Hall for the comfort of sitting and visiting. When you volunteer to take a Sunday to make coffee and set the cookies out, you do a service appreciated by so many. Look around you for the sign up sheet. All supplies are provided for your convenience. Thanks from all of us. We appreciate your time. If you discover a spill on the Sanctuary carpet, please blot it up with paper towel and alert the church office. Luciano will treat the spot. This will allow us to keep the carpeting looking like new. Coffee Fellowship Locations: Back of Sanctuary following 8:45am service Fellowship Hall following 11am service. Music Filing Needed -- Are you the kind of person who likes things neat and tidy? Does having things in disarray drive you crazy? If you've answered in the affirmative to these two questions, you may be just the person we need to sort and re-file the music that has piled up in the choir rehearsal area. Want to volunteer for a couple of hours of busy, but highly-satisfying work? Please leave your name with the office. Thanks for your willingness to help. Deadline for April Messenger is Wednesday, March 15 at noon. 2017 Easter Lily Memorial Garden: Lily orders for the Easter Memorial Garden will be taken through Palm Sunday, April 9. The cost per plant remains $10.00. Proceeds from this sale will support youth programs. The lilies are arranged in the chancel area for the Easter Morning services. They may be taken home after the 11:00 a.m. worship service. To place your order, complete the order form in your March Messenger, or in the narthex or online and return it with your check to: Mamrelund Lutheran Youth. Payments may also go in the church office mail slot.
