3rd Sunday of Lent Paul reminded the Corinthians, "We proclaim Christ crucified." Christ's weakness is stronger than any human strength. The power of the cross is greater than anything the world or evil has to combat it. The Lenten season is one of repentance, self-denial, almsgiving, and prayer. Many in our modern world do not see any wisdom in denying themselves anything. Those swept away in a consumer culture want more and they want it faster, bigger, and better. They also are looking for easy and quick satisfaction, unwilling to wait long. Paul speaks of the "foolishness of God" and how it is wiser than any human wisdom. Lent is a time to put aside that which we feel and think as humans and put on the attitude of Christ. The cross of Christ is neither easy nor fleeting, and it will ask us to deny our very selves for him. To the human mind it makes no sense. However, by putting on Christ and seeing with his eyes, we see reality with clarity. Our sacrifice can lead to riches that only a "foolish" man would covet. But it is exactly there that we are satisfied and fulfilled. Reflection Adult: What helps make you a living sign of God's presence? What makes you, a human being, corrupt the sign? How do you fix the corruption? Youth: There are things every day that make us angry or unhappy. What are some things that cause you to be angry or unhappy? How can you either overcome them or help fix what is wrong? “Symbolon” – Adult Faith Formation Sunday, March 8 9:15-10:45am in Room 10 (new classroom in the back of the Daily Mass Chapel) Topic: Mary and the Saints

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS! Scrutinies...Catechumens...RCIA 8am Mass, the 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays of Len What's it all about??? It's all about our catechumens - Caitlin Joyce and Kyle Smith preparing to come into the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. The Year A readings are always used during Lent for the 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays because of the Scrutinies. These particular readings were used in the early Church to instruct the catechumens on how belief in Jesus Christ transforms our lives, through water that gives us life (3rd); and just like in the gospels when it says they were blind, it means they do not understand and have faith, so faith opens our eyes to belief in Jesus and all he does for us (4th); and finally, the raising of Lazarus (5th), the promise of eternal life that comes to us through belief in Jesus Christ and the Paschal Mystery. The prayers in the Scrutinies each particular week focus on that specific area of our faith journey where we may still need to scrutinize our inner self seeking what may still not be "of God" and need to change our hearts in preparation for receiving the sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Please keep Caitlin, Kyle, their sponsors and their godparents in your prayers. Let them know you're prayerfully supporting them. Let's welcome them with open arms into our beautiful community of faith.

CHANGES FOR LENT! Over the last two weekends, you may have noticed several changes to the Mass. Note these changes as we progress through Lent: • • • •

• • •

Purple colors in the church decorations and the priest’s vestments, a symbol of penance, sacrifice, and preparation Simplified decorations in the church No Gloria (only sung on Sundays outside Advent and Lent) No singing of the “Alleluia” before the Gospel (Alleluia means “praise God,” and during Lent we focus on the Kingdom coming, not the Kingdom having come) Sung response to the intercessions (Lord, hear our prayer) Instrumental music during the offertory to give time for reflection on the Gospel and homily. No bells during the Consecration

PASTORAL COUNCIL! In a few weeks, we are going to ask for nominations for members to the Pastoral Council from our community. The Pastoral Council is a visioning and planning body made up of parishioners who work in consultation with our Pastor, Fr. Jim. The Council listens to and identifies the needs and concerns of our community and how best to respond to the needs. We meet once a month on the 2nd Wednesday of the month and these meetings are open to all. We also ask that you please think of anyone, including yourself, who might be interested in becoming a member. Additional information will follow in the next few weeks. We will also be having an information night prior to the discernment of new members. You can make your final decision about joining the Council at that time.

3RD SUNDAY OF LENT

Projector Project at Corpus Christi On Saturday, February 28, 2015, the Times Union included an article that summarized an interview with Deacon Richard Thiesen, a permanent deacon who was ordained in 2002 and now serves at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Loudonville. The article asked the Deacon about which features of the newly renovated worship space he was glad were included. To quote the text from the article: “With a steeply sloped back to front ceiling, we paid special attention to the acoustics, in terms of the spoken, instrumental and sung word, and to our programmable lighting design. We’re told that our light bulbs will last for 50 years. We also have the capability to live stream over the Internet and to project hymns and prayers to our walls. We believe that technology will help us to evangelize.” Corpus Christi has embarked on a project to install two projectors and two retractable screens in the church for the reason Deacon Thiesen mentions: Evangelization. Please read below to learn more about the goals and objectives of this project that relate specifically to our parish. This project is designed to create a more welcoming, prayerful, comfortable, and participatory worship environment. Funding for the equipment and installation is coming from a grant from the Diocese of Albany and the donations of generous individuals and families within the parish. If you would like to donate to ensure the success of this project, please contact the office. Please keep the parish of Corpus Christi and all the parishes in the Diocese of Albany in your prayers as we all strive to spread the Word of God and make Christ relevant in today’s society. 1. Increase Participation During Mass

4. Develop a More Community-Oriented Focus to the Parish

-Include slides with the priest’s text and the appropriate congregational responses -Display spoken prayers (Confiteor, Creed, Our Father) -Display silent prayers (prayer before Mass) -Display text for hymns, Responsorial Psalm, and sung responses during the Eucharistic Prayer

-Increase awareness of parish events and opportunities through informative slides and promotional videos for parish programs such as Living the Eucharist and Symbolon -Acknowledge and express appreciation for the service of parishioners and ministries by displaying pictures of service events, trips, projects, events, etc. -Publicize volunteer opportunities

2. Create a More Welcoming Environment for People Who are Fallen-Away Catholics, New to the Faith, and Visitors

5. Support Bereaved Families and Friends who Attend Corpus Christi for Wakes and Funerals

-Help these people to feel comfortable about participating instead of feeling excluded because they are unfamiliar with the Mass -Include directions to stand, sit, or kneel as appropriate -Before Mass, include a welcome message and information on how to register

-Create a more personal environment that honors the deceased by including personalized slides before the funeral Mass -Display a slideshow of pictures during a wake -Help family and visitors feel comfortable about participating during Mass by displaying prayers and spoken responses

3. Increase Awareness of the Purposes of the Bishop’s Appeal and Other Diocesan and National Collections

6. Connect with the Youth

-Educate parishioners about what the funds are used for by displaying promotional and informative images, text, and/or videos related to the collection -Display YouTube videos from Bishop Scharfenberger that address the Bishop’s Appeal (and other topics) Continue to watch the bulletin for updates on this project. All equipment should be installed and ready to use for Holy Week. Thank you for keeping an open mind about how we can grow as a parish. Please contact the office with specific questions.

-Utilize the projector system for engaging educational presentations for faith formation and faith enrichment classes and retreats -View NCYC highlights, World Youth Day clips, etc. 7. Create a suitable and Modern Worship Space for Use by the Deanery, Local Catholic Community (LCC), Diocesan Departments, and Community Organizations -Accommodate the requests and needs of guest speakers who bring slideshows and/or videos -Incorporate the projector system into LCC Confirmation retreats, adult faith formation, and many other ministries
