Line a baking sheet with wax paper. In a large sized bowl mix sugar, peanut butter, butter, and vanilla with hands to form smooth dough. Mixture will be VERY stiff. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place on waxpaper & put in refrigerator. Makes 5 dozen In the top of a double boiler, over simmering (not boiling) water mixing melted chocolate & shaved wax together (don’t have to use all the wax if you don’t want to but it helps the chocolate stick to dough). When smooth, remove balls from refrigerator and with a plastic fork with three prongs broken off (tooth pick works as well), dip each ball into the melted chocolate, while still in double boiler, so that ¾ of ball is coated. Return to wax paper, chocolate side down, and remove toothpick. If you want, smear the top of ball to hide fork or toothpick hole. Repeat process. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or longer, until chocolate is firm, not sticky. To store, remove from waxpaper & place in plastic containers with waxpaper between layers to keep separate.
