To discourage vandalism and damage to buses, principals, teachers and bus drivers should work together in the care of buses. Each driver is responsible for the care and cleanliness of the bus, and the following procedures are to be followed to prevent/and in case of vandalism: 1.
Care of school buses shall be stressed by all persons responsible for any aspect of the school bus transportation program.
2.
Each driver is required to inspect his bus daily for vandalism and report any defect that comes to his attention to the school principal.
3.
Each driver should assist school personnel in determining and identifying those responsible for vandalism.
4.
If determined by the school personnel and the chief mechanic that the driver has deliberately damaged or vandalized his bus or any other bus, he will be discharged from his driving duty, shall pay for repairing the damages and shall be suspended from riding a school bus. This is to be determined by the principal.
5.
If determined by the school personnel and the driver that a student has damaged the bus or vandalized the bus such as cut seats, broken windows, parts removed from the bus, writing on interior, etc., the student responsible will pay for repairs, as determined by the transportation supervisor, and may be suspended from riding any school bus for a period of time to be decided by the school principal.
6.
Any person who willfully trespasses or damages a school bus shall pay for damages and shall be subject to legal proceedings as outlined in G.S. 14-132.2.
