CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC CHURCH!

! When God Created Mothers ! When the good Lord was creating mothers, He was into His !sixth day of “overtime” when an angel appeared and said, !“You’re doing a lot of fiddling around here on this one.” And the Lord said, “Have you read the specs on this order?” ! She has to be completely washable, but not plastic; have 180 ! moving parts…all replaceable; run on black coffee and leftovers; !have a lap that disappears when she stands up; a kiss that can cure !anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair; and six !pairs of hands. The angel shook her head slowly and said “six pairs of ! hands…no way.” ! “It’s not the hands that are causing me the problems,” said ! the Lord. “It’s the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have.” !“That’s on the standard Model?” asked the angel. The Lord !nodded. “One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks, !“what are you kids doing in there”…when she already knows. !Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn’t !but what she has to know, and of course the ones here in the front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say, “I understand !and I love you”, without so much as uttering a word. ! “Lord,” said the angel, touching His sleeve gently, “Come !to bed. Tomorrow…” “I can’t said the Lord, I’m so close to !creating something so close to myself. Already I have one that !heals herself when she is sick…can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger…and can get a nine year old to stand under a !shower.” The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. !“It’s too soft,” she sighed. “But tough!” said the Lord excitedly. !“You cannot imagine what this mother can do and endure.” “Can !it think?” “Not only think, but it can reason and compromise,” the Creator. Finally, the angel vent over and ran her fingers !said across the cheek. “There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told you !you were trying to put too much into this model.” “It’s not a !leak,” said the Lord, “it’s a tear.” “What’s it for?” “It’s for joy, !sadness, disappointment, pain, and loneliness and pride.” “You !are a genius,” said the angel. The Lord looked somber. “I didn’t put it there.” ! ! STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE ! Parish Financial Support May 3-4, 2014 ! Envelopes & Loose checks (315) $10,533 ! ! ! Loose Cash 978 ! ! ! ! !! ! !! ! First Reading:! Acts of the Apostles 2:14a, 36-41 (49A)! ! Second Reading:! 1 Peter 2:20b-25! ! Gospel Reading:! John 10:14 ! “Amen, amen I say to you, I am the gate for the sheep…I ! came so that they might have life and have it more ! abundantly.” The 4th Sunday of Easter is traditionally called ! “Good Shepherd Sunday.” In today’s Gospel, the image for Jesus is not that of shepherd, but that of “gate.” This image draws our ! attention to Jesus as the risen One who always recognizes us and ! cares for us (“the Good Shepherd”). The wide open gate is the ! goodness of the Shepherd. The gate also symbolizes how the ! Shepherd acts toward us – the gate is a metaphor for Jesus’ care, ! his openness to call and welcome everyone, his desire to following, recognizing: we are to open our ears in faith, open our ! hearts in trust, and open our minds in love. This is the way to ! abundant life with the Risen Lord. ! Adult: Do you hear Jesus calling your name? Have you found the ! abundant Life in the Risen Lord? Can you describe it? ! Youth: Can you hear Jesus’ voice when you pray? Do you know ! that Jesus knows your name – you are not a stranger to him? ! How does that make you feel? SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR NEXT WEEKEND ! ! First Reading:! Acts of the Apostles 6:1-7 (52A)! ! Second Reading:! 1 Peter 2:4-9!

Prayer for Parents: Gracious and loving God you have blessed us with the privilege of becoming Parents. We ask that you provide us with all that we need in accepting this awesome responsibility. We pray that we will be open to your spirit who is our source of strength as we witness to our children your love for each of them and your desire for them to be happy and to live a full life. We ask your help so we may guide and encourage our children to believe that they each have a special calling and to use their gifts and talents for others. We pray, Heavenly Father, that our children will discover and respond enthusiastically to your desire for them whether it be to the vocation of single, married, ordained or consecrated life. We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus through the grace of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Prayer for Laypeople: Loving God, your Son, Jesus, has shown us that an open heart finds the way. Help me to find my way in this world. Keep my heart open to following Jesus' way of serving others in love. Give me the courage to accept the guidance you offer me through my family, my friends, and my parish community. Through the Holy Spirit, you call me to a particular way of life. If it is the way of a priest, sister, brother or deacon, then help me to walk it in joyful service to your people. With you, my God, I know I can find my way. Amen. 33 DAYS TO MORNING GLORY! Want to Grow in Holiness, But Too Busy? Want to transform your work, your marriage, your family, and your life, but don’t have time? Looking for the quickest, surest, and easiest way to holiness, but don’t know where to begin? In our hectic day and time, St. John Paul II and Blessed Mother Teresa knew that the quickest way to be transformed into a saint is through a relationship with Our Blessed Mother, Mary. Join us on (June 12th), as we begin a 33-day preparation for Marian Consecration. For six weeks, we’ll individually read about and reflect on four great Marian giants: St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa, and St. John Paul II. They’ll teach us the secrets to drawing closer to the Heart of Jesus through the Heart of Mary. In our weekly meetings, (Thursdays June 12, 19, 26, July 3, and 10 from 6:30 – 8:00pm) we’ll share our insights within our small group and then watch a 30-minute video. The video by popular author and speaker, Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, brings our individual reflections and group experience into a clear and liveable focus. We will end our retreat with a Consecration Mass on Wednesday, July 16th at 7 pm. If you are looking for a simple way to be spiritually renewed, develop a deeper relationship with Our Merciful Savior, and grow in holiness, join us for 33 Days to Morning Glory. Sign-up after masses the weekend of May 17th and 18th. The cost of the six-week retreat is $15. If you would like more information contact Heather Eichin at [email protected] or 877-8034.

A “LIVING THE EUCHARIST” THANK YOU!! We want to thank all the members of the Corpus Christi community who participated in “Living the Eucharist” (LTE) during this 2014 Lenten season! In this second year of the threeyear program, approximately 745 parishioners of all ages were involved in learning about the mystery of the Eucharist--the most beautiful treasure of our Catholic faith – through small faithsharing groups, or family-based activities, or through reading the LTE devotional, From Exodus to Easter. 17 adults served as facilitators for 18 small groups, which included a total of 159 people who met weekly for the 6 weeks of Lent. 3 teen facilitators led 3 groups, totaling 23 of our young people. 36 Corpus Christi families with young children utilized the LTE family guide for 6 weeks of home-based, hands-on activities to learn about the Mass and its symbols. Several hundred adults participated in the program through reading the daily devotions, and an additional 12 of our homebound church members enjoyed the devotional with their Pastoral Care volunteers. And, finally, 42 adults and teens attended the concluding retreat on May 3. “Living the Eucharist” has been a blessing in our parish and has strengthened our community in many ways: rebuilding a sense of discipleship and a faith-centered Catholic lifestyle, promoting generational bonds, and nurturing one another in our personal journeys to grow closer to God and to understand the miracle of the Eucharist in our daily lives. We sincerely invite all who participated this year to join us again next year for the final program year – and, if you haven’t tried LTE yet, please prayerfully consider joining us next year! The success of the LTE ministry at Corpus Christi would not be possible without the skills and dedication of our talented Parish Leadership Team: Fr. Jim, Paul Wajda, Rita Harfield, Sue Street, Tina McQuiston, Mary Jo Brown, Rosemarie Wysocki, Nick Papa, Peggy MacArthur, Heather Eichin, Eileen and George Earle, Gary Stewart, Nathaniel Kinkaid, Karen Hedley, Judy Mullins, and Carrie Wajda. Thank you to all, and God Bless, Teri and John Gay – LTE Co-Chairmen !
