Project: Exploring the Night Sky Introduction From what we have learned about the Universe the celestial sphere and the constellations, your homework will be to explore the night sky – over the next 7 days. You will take a short virtual survey of the October/November night sky off the Hubble web site. You will also create a Google Apps Document that you will share with your instructor. To complete the project you need to observe the night sky and carefully record at least five night time star recordings – weather permitting. Process - Preparation • • • • • •
Login into your laptop. Start Google Chrome and sign into Google Apps (Mr. H. Home Æ Google Apps) Bring up Google Docs and create a new document. Click on the Title and change the title to: Your First Name and Last name - Night Sky Share your document with your instructor as Collaborators. Format your document as follows: o Name: o Period: o Project: NIGHT SKY o o NOTES
Tonight’s Sky movie notes – create a nice outline summary of what you have seen.
o REFLECTION
AFTER you have recorded your night-time observations of the night sky – write a reflection on your observations. I am expecting a minimum of two paragraphs.

Please play the movie for highlights of the October Sky and take careful notes. Record all your notes in the Google Document you created – carefully follow the format.
Observation: In the next nights observe the night sky and try to match the diagrams / pictures with what you saw in the movies. Insure you record the big dipper – carefully. 1
