Welcome back to the 2016 portion of our school year! We ended 2015 with a bang! Students in 5H were in the spirit of giving and contributed to the 5 Days of Christmas campaign, organized by our grade 6 classes. We enjoyed a day at Fred John's park building our teamwork skills. Finally, 5H entertained our school community on the Christmas concert! Here is a quick update on what we are doing and what you can expect in the upcoming weeks! EL A - Tr ickster Tales We finished up our Bridge to Terabithia Novel Study before the winter break. Currently, we are studying Trickster Tales. Students have a new collection of stories from all over the world. They will be using their reading comprehension strategies to read Trickster Tales and will being writing a tale of their own in the next week. Students should be practicing their

M ath - Tr ansfor mations We are close to finishing our transformations unit and will be moving back into our numeracy strand with the study of decimal numbers and equivalent fractions. Our Electricity Unit has passed the halfway point. We are close to finishing the teaching and demonstration portion of our Science Unit and will be moving into the hands-on, project-based portion soon. Save the Date - February 26 will be our 2nd Annual Toy Fair where students will develop a prototype toy using their knowledge of electricity to put on display! Social -The Stor ies of Canada Students are just starting to learn about the events that took place as Europeans started coming to Canada. We will be doing many interactive, inquiry based tasks throughout this unit.
