CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC CHURCH

In broadcasting this year's Packers-Steelers Super Bowl   game, FOX Sports rejected a thirty-second ad featuring the   Scripture citation, John 3:16. The citation periodically pops up on  signs held by fans in end zone shots, even though television  networks are getting skilled at eliminating such scenes from their  broadcasts. The ad rejected by FOX Sports did appear in the  Washington, DC and Birmingham, Alabama markets just before  the fourth quarter. A close-up of a defensive player's face after a tackle shows the Scripture citation painted on his eye black. Even  with that limited exposure, enough people logged in that the  Internet traffic crashed the sponsor's Web site.   As we celebrate the feast of the Most Holy Trinity this   weekend, we hear the actual text to which the citation refers:   "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that  everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have  eternal life." The life of the Holy Trinity is one of pure and total  love. That is the love we are celebrating today: complete and  unconditional, sacrificial and eternal.   We could emulate the zeal of those who are so intent on  proclaiming John 3:16 at every opportunity, but not necessarily  their methods. Holding up signs at football games or producing a  commercial may entice the curious, but these actions don't  necessarily lead to lifelong conversion. But if people see in our  way of living the example of love that is lived within the Trinity, then people will be attracted naturally to the faith. While we may  consider the Trinity an abstraction about God, it is really an  expression of the deepest love, love so intense that the three  persons-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit-are one. Our own human  love will never be that complete, but if we strive for that in our  own lives others will come to share in what we believe.  ©2011 Liturgical Publications Inc   STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE   Parish Financial Support June 7-8, 2014   Envelopes & Loose checks (246) $7,835       Loose Cash 1,077       E-Giving (38) 1,525       Total $10,437       As     we  continue  our  journey,  we  share  our  time,  talents,    and  treasures  with  our  family,  friends,  and  our  Parish     Community.  As  always,  we  place  our  trust  in  God.       SACRAMENTS Reconciliation:  Saturdays  at  3:00-‐3:30pm  or  call  Fr.  Clark  at  877-‐   8506,  Ext  303.    Communal  Penance  during  Advent/Lent.

JUNE 15, 2014

Readings for June 15, 2014   Exodus 34:4B-6, 8-9     First Reading:   Second Reading:   2 Corinthians 13:11-13     Gospel Reading:   John 3:16-18   “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so   that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might   have eternal life.” We seek the experience of God’s nearness   and His overwhelming love for us. God’s desire is that we share   in divine Life eternally. He is very near – near to Moses on Mount Sinai (as in the first reading) and near to us in the divine   Son (Jesus) who came to dwell among us.   For those who believe, our triune God (three persons in   One) dwells within us by grace and communion, drawing us into   the inner Life of the Trinity. This mystery of the Trinity does not   so much challenge us to understanding as it challenges us to a   worshipful response to God’s utter goodness and presence too us   – through His love and nearness. The only way we share in   God’s glory is to give of ourselves in the same way God gives to   us – in love and mercy, graciousness and faithfulness, nearness an communion. Amazingly, our simple, good, everyday actions   toward one another express the very Life of God and God’s   desire to be near us. The mystery of the Trinity will always be a

mystery; yet, we ourselves are privileged to express the wonder of divine life through our own goodness, mercy, love, and peace. Adults: When do you experience the nearness of God in your life? How does your experience of God’s communion with you lead you to communion with others? Youth: Do you think about the Holy Trinity (the Father, God; the Son, Jesus; the Holy Spirit) when you make the Sign of the Cross? What does it mean to you? Readings for Next Weekend: June 22, 2014

RCIA GATHERING RCIA is planning an informal gathering night on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. Announcements for the meeting are being placed in the Evangelist, the Pennysaver, and the Community News to invite people from the community who may be interested in exploring the Catholic Faith. If you know someone who has questions about our Catholic faith, please inform them of this upcoming event. Further, as we are hoping this will attract inquirers to our parish, we are in need of expanding the RCIA team. Team training and materials are provided. All that is necessary is faith and the Spirit! Please contact Justin Loviglio 867-7942, or email [email protected] or Karen Stockton, 371-7359 or email [email protected].

HOW THE GOOD NEWS GETS AROUND TO YOU! This week, all the parishes in the Diocese of Albany will take up the Collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). Through your gift, the USCCB is able to provide tools for Evangelization on its website and it supports the efforts of our diocese as we all work to communicate our faith and acts of charity to others. In our diocese, we are able to provide television, radio, and print materials that spread the Good News of Christ’s abiding love for each and everyone of us, such as the weekly Sunday Mass presentation of “Table of the Lord” on our local television stations. Let us pray as a community that the Good News of the Gospel will continue to be spread by wise use of communications technology.

We give thanks to God for sending two new shepherds to the Diocese of Albany! Deacon Brian Slezak and Deacon James Davis were ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, June 14, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Please pray for them as they enter their new ministry, and pray for continued vocations to the priesthood and religious life!

2014 BISHOP’S APPEAL   After the fourth week of the 2014 Bishop’s Appeal, our parish has collected gifts and pledges in the amount of $81,732 from 308 participants. FAITH FORMATION

Survey Parents: We are looking for your input as we plan next year’s Faith Formation program. We’d like your thoughts regarding the class schedule and the strengths and weaknesses of the program. Please take a couple minutes to fill out the short survey: www.corpuschristichurch.net/faithformation/survey

Registration for the 2014-2015 School Year In the Gathering Area after Mass this weekend, please register your child(ren) for next year’s classes. Contact Joan Haviland with questions: [email protected].

An Open Letter to Every Baptized Catholic Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God. - 1 John 4:7 Contributing to the Bishop’s Appeal is each parishioner’s material way of working in the Lord’s vineyard. The harvest is plentiful, but laborers remain few. We need all who call Corpus Christi their spiritual home to become a part of this life-saving work. All contributions, regardless of size, will be humbly and gratefully accepted. Pledge envelopes are available on the Bishop’s Appeal table in the Gathering Area and at both entrances to the church. Pledges and donations can also be made directly through the Bishop’s Appeal website, www.thebishopsappeal.org, where donors can make a one-time gift, a pledge or a payment on an existing pledge.

God needs you, we need you, and most of all our children need you. In Baptism we are told that to pass on the faith is the responsibility of every baptized person. Are you willing to pass on the gift of Faith you have received? Please pray and see if you are being called to be a Catechist or a Catechist Aide. The requirements are simple: love God and love our children. They need you! If you don’t share your faith with them, who will? We will supply all the materials, all the encouragement, and all the prayer. Please contact Joan Haviland for more information, or stop by her office to meet. 877-8506 x373, [email protected].
