23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone." Gossip has become a modern pastime. We publish magazines with the latest celebrity chatter, and create websites and blogs that reverberate with "opinions" about public and private personalities alike. Many people utilize social media to rant about the behavior of others, and the good old-fashioned coffee break still provides ample opportunity to reveal the offenses we have suffered or to dish out dirt about people who aren't present. Although it can take many forms, at its core, gossip is about tarnishing people's reputations without giving them a chance to defend themselves. Today, Jesus recommends a different approach. He encourages us to deal directly with people, which in effect means to treat them with dignity and respect. Rather than making preconceived judgments about another's behavior, Jesus asks us to talk to the person involved ... first. Instead of running around venting our frustrations elsewhere, or even "tattling" on someone who has legitimately wronged us, we are called to address our concern head-on, with charity and compassion. As Jesus suggests, "If he listens to you, you have won over your brother." In other words, by speaking directly to those who have offended us, we actually have the chance to resolve the situation before it grows out of proportion. Of course this doesn't always work; that's why Jesus mentions the other steps to take if necessary. But we will be the ones to blame for the continuation of the conflict unless we follow the Lord's advice and give peace a chance.

A Blessing for Grandparents Day, September 7 God, who is our model of an ever-loving and patient parent, we give thanks for these men and women who stand in our community as models of parenting. We implore your fatherly blessing on these grandmothers and grandfathers as they stand with their grandchildren close to their hearts. We ask that you give them health and longevity so that they may impart their knowledge and love to their grandchildren. Help them to be patient, loving, and kind. We ask all this in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

This Weekend This weekend, September 6 & 7, the Mass schedule has changed to 8:00am and 11:00am to prepare for the Faith Formation class schedule starting on September 21. The 4:00pm Vigil on Saturday will remain the same.

MUSICAL: “BOOK OF JOB”! Attention fans of last year’s musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” Another production is being planned for this fall in cooperation with St. Clement’s church in Saraotga! The musical is called “Book of Job” and is centered around the life of Job and his stories from the Bible. This is a less-intense show than Jesus Christ Superstar, but the music is still great and it’s a fantastic opportunity to display your faith in an uncommon way – acting! The composer has published the music just for this production, meaning we will be the first churches to perform it without his assistance. There are opportunities for adults and children in the ensemble and as leads. Like last year, there will be one weekend of performances at Corpus Christi and one weekend of performances at St. Clement’s. The leads will perform during both weekends, but if there are enough children interested from each church, they will only have to perform at their home church – the Corpus Christi children would perform here and not have to rehearse at St. Clement’s and vise versa. Put these dates in your calendar: Sunday, September 14, 7:00pm Informational Meeting in the church

New Mobile App is included and provides local savings. Books will be available after weekend Mass and at the office during the week. Funds raised are used in support the Knights charitable efforts. DID YOU KNOW…! -Mike Mudrovic will be working with some Spanish-speaking readers who will proclaim the Word at Mass. If you speak Spanish and are interested in this ministry, please contact Mike at [email protected] or 289-5145. Training will be scheduled. -If you are a baptized Catholic, you can bring up the gifts during Mass. At every Mass, you will see two or three people bring the bread, wine, and/or water to the presider at offertory time. Have you wanted to do that? GREAT! Stop in the sacristy when you get to church and give the sacristan your name. It's one more way you can be involved in the miracle of liturgy -If you wish to be a liturgical minister - Eucharistic minister, reader, usher, greeter, cantor, altar server -- there's someone waiting to hear from you. Contact Judy Mullins [email protected]. Training will be arranged through the ministry coordinator. -Mass is communal. That means it's meant for everyone to participate, especially during Communion. Even if you are not receiving Eucharist, you can receive a blessing. So, if you are able to move, get up and receive a blessing. BE PART OF EXPERIENCING THE LORD! You are loved!!

The Adult Choir will begin their weekly rehearsals on Thursday, September 11 from 7:00-8:30pm in the church. New members are needed, especially tenors and basses. Sometimes people are intimidated to join a choir because they feel that they aren’t good enough. Strength in numbers helps people overcome this feeling because you are surrounded by others singing your part. The more people we have leads to a better sound! If you like to sing, please consider joining this fulfilling ministry. I would encourage any past choir members to return to us and for any new members of the parish to try it out. High school students are also welcome in the Adult Choir. Questions? Contact me: [email protected] Thank you! Looking forward to getting started this year. -Matt

BISHOP’S APPEAL UPDATE! Thank you to everyone who has donated to the 2014 Bishop’s Appeal. We are especially appreciative of all the new families who have made a financial commitment to support the success of the Diocese of Albany in the coming year. As of August 14, our total gifts and pledges was $105,474.19 from 432 families. The final total for 2013 was $119,672.34 with 495 families contributing. As you can see, we are $14,198.15 short of our total last year and 63 fewer families have made a contribution. Please consider making a difference in this Diocese with your contribution. See more information about the Bishop’s Appeal on its website: www.thebishopsappeal.org. Thank you for your generosity. Pledge envelopes can be found in the Gathering Area and at each entrance. Online pledges can be made at the website above.

Please plan to join our priests, religious, Knights of Columbus, and the Diocesan Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima. Bring your family and friends and any groups you’re involved with, in a memorable procession honoring our Lord in His Eucharistic presence and sharing His graces with the community. Last year over 250 people joined us. Questions, contact: Viviane @ 384-0699 or [email protected]

EVANGELIST!

When new members join the parish, they are added to the Evangelist subscription list to receive a weekly copy of the paper at their home. We are in the process of reviewing this list of subscriptions to ensure it is accurate and up to date. We’re finding that families were not removed from this list if they moved away from the area, changed parishes, changed addresses, etc. If you are currently receiving the Evangelist and notice that your subscription has stopped in the next couple months, it means that we do not have accurate records of your address in our database. If you would like to continue to receive the paper, make sure to contact the office to renew your subscription. We encourage all families that are subscribed to make a donation to the church to cover the cost of the subscription. 200 CLUB WINNERS FOR AUGUST!
