Integrating Ecology, Information Technology and Society ADMISSION M.Phil - Ecological Informatics 2013-14 Ecological Informatics (EI) is a trans-disciplinary subject that integrates ecology, information technology, computational and social sciences in order to improve our understanding of ecological processes and expand socio-ecological theory to integrate the Earth’s natural systems, human values, health and wellbeing. Course Objectives This program seeks to impart computational, IT/informatics skills to students with background in natural sciences. It equips the students for a career in ecological research with special emphasis on Information Technology. Inclusion of social dimension makes this program peerless.
Scholarships All students admitted to the program, with minimum 65% marks or 7.0 CGPA in M.Sc. will be awarded SPEED-IT Eligibility First class M.Sc. in Natural/ Physical Sciences with CGPA 6.5 or above in 10 points scale. Course Structure M.Phil. EI is a one-year, full time programme. In the first semester, students are tutored core modules comprising Ecology [ecologicalphysics, landscape ecology and quantitative ecology], Informatics [computer programming, database, information system and geospatial technologies] and SocioEcology and Research Methodology, [ecological economics, demography, anthropology, sociology and research methodology]. We encourage our M.Phil students to carry out their project either at collaborating national institutions or in any laboratory identified by them. Few of our students have carried out their research in European Universities. Employment Prospects With the analytical skill sets and holistic perspective acquired, our students get an edge over the others in securing research fellowships for doctoral studies or employment with MultiNational Companies or NGOs, etc.
