The Arab Arts Focus is coming to Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017 The Arab Arts Focus is a showcase of new Arab work. It was first presented in 2014 as part of the Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival in Cairo (D-CAF). We are delighted to announce that the Arab Arts Focus is coming to the 70th edition of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017 (4th to 28th of August).

The AAF is co-produced by D-CAF Festival (Cairo) & Northern Stage (Newcastle) in collaboration with Tamasi collective for Performing Arts. We are looking for the most exciting Arab perfromance artists, companies or collectives that have new work to present to the international stage (work can include any genre of theatre & contemporary performances). This is an open call to find the most engaging, thought-provoking and creative contemporary work Arab artists have to offer. Eligibility and Condittions: • Artists must be Arab and can be based anywhere in the world. • Preference will be given to works that premiered after January 2016 and onwards. • For works in production phase, the work must be completed by July 2017. • The AAF will not present any work-in-progress or scratch pieces. • Any genre of theatre and contemporary performance is accepted. • The work must have a clear technical rider. • Maximum of 8 people involved in the production, including technical staff. • The work must be between 30 – 80 mins long. • The work can be in any language, with preference given to works in Arabic. • Each company/artist cannot present more than one work. We will select and invite five to six artists/companies to be part of the first showcase of contemporary Arab performance and theatre at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In return the artists will receive: • Convenient setup & a full three-week run of their show at one of the top Edinburgh Fringe venues. • Publicity and Marketing for their show. • Accommodation in shared apartments, per diem and travel and visa fees will be covered. • Technical requirements and support for their show. • An honorary compensation of no more then 100 £ per person per week, with a possible share in box office revenues. • High quality documentation of their show. • A chance to perform their work to an international audience and to top programmers from around the UK, Europe and the world. The selection committee will meet in February 2017, selected candidates will be contacted by early March 2017.
