Engineer of Environmental Assessment 1997-1999 Shanxi Institute of Chemical Design Engineering, Taiyuan, Shanxi, China Participated several Projects of Environmental impact assessment, mainly responsible for assessing the surrounding water environment, waster water treatment facilities and projects planning, field survey. Projects includes: Environmental impact assessment of k2so4 engineering for Shanxi Nanfeng Chemical Group; Environmental impact assessment of Gas-supply engineering for Shanxi Jincheng city; Environmental Impact Assessment of Gasworks Engineering of Shanxi Linfen Huashun Coal Transport Company.
RESEARCH INTERESTS Biofilm Characteristics, Models and monitoring (Course Project) 2004 Fall This project studied biofilm formation and characteristics, focus on biofilm growth model and mathematical model, such as its detachment mechanics, dual-species biobarrier model. Also discusses biofilm monitoring and its application. Studies one example: application of mathematical model of biofilm growth in the fracture media. Landfill Design (Course Project) 2004 Winter design of the cover system, barrier system in landfill based on modelling calculation using POLLUTE software, combination of hydro-geologic considerations and contaminant transport through barrier systems and natural soils to provide long term protection against groundwater contamination; final design meet OReg 232/98 requirements. Design Proposal for TCE Biodegradation in a Fractured Bedrock Environment (Course project) 2004 Winter This proposal offered a cost-effective solution to remediate the TCE contamination present on site at Plastic Kingston Inc. A closed loop recirculation system using bio-augmentation followed by monitored natural attenuation will be used over the course of four years to bring the contamination below Guideline for Use at Contaminated Sites in Ontario (1997) criteria for a non-potable water environment. Studies of Constructed Wetland’s application in Bayside, ON 2004 Winter This project examined the application of constructed wetlands in Sunny Creek Estates,Bayside,ON, which was installed in 1998. Try to find solution to improve this wetland’s efficiency for phosphorus removal, check the design criteria, and investigated the medium, vegetation selected in wetland and inlet control system.
DNAPL Transportation, Fate and Monitoring (Course Project) 2003 Fall Examined the dissolution of dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) in unconsolidated deposits/in in fractured rock, analyses some Specific conceptual models of its transportation and fate, reviews its remediation strategies. Based on the above-mentioned understanding of DNAPL, this project compared the current technologies of site investigation, field monitoring and risk assessments for DNAPLs. Bioreactor Design (Course Project) 2003 Fall Applied bio-kinetic models, along with Residence Time Distribution Analysis, to the design of ideal / nonideal stirred tank bioreactor. Factors considered in design are mass transfer, mixing, power requirement, etc. Scale-up criteria are examined. The rules and theories of this design can be applied widely in Chemical Engineering and wastewater treatment facilities designs.
