Strategies for Climate Change Adaptation: Insight from the Field We invite you to an informal discussion to hear from two experts who have been involved at adaptation planning and advocacy, particularly focused on disaster risk reduction, from the local to the international level. Date: November 15th 3:00-5:00pm Location: InterAction, 1400 16th St NW, Suite 210 Presentations by: Harjeet Singh, Emergencies and Conflict Advisor for Asia and the Americas with ActionAid International. Based in New Delhi, India, Harjeet is responsible for supporting a number of countries in Asia and Americas in emergency and conflict situations. Harjeet’s work on immediate and long-term responses includes national level program design, policy formulation, and staff training in impacted countries. Harjeet is also ActionAid’s lead staff person working on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation. Harjeet has conducted trainings on emergency response, Disaster Risk Reduction and climate change adaptation in over 20 countries for government and non-government agencies.
Abdi Omar Farah, Programme Coordinator with WomanKind Kenya, a local Kenyan NGO based in the Ijara District. Abdi has worked in the NGO sector for the last ten years. Abdi works with local communities and community-based organizations on reducing risks associated with natural disasters and helping communities increase their resilience to climate change. He has led work in his community around climate adaptation particularly focused on supporting community members to build alternative livelihoods such as dry land farming. Abdi has also led local level advocacy work including ensuring that the federal government’s resources for disaster risk reduction are equitable distributed through the country.
